OPERATOR (FT, & Seasonal)
General Purpose

Operates and maintains a variety of contractor’s equipment and trucks utilized in construction, maintenance and repair activities; performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance of light(s), street, water, sewer or storm drainage systems and general maintenance of buildings or grounds.

Supervision Received

Works under the close supervision of the Service Department Supervisor and the Assistant

Service Department Supervisor.

Essential Duties

1. Operates trucks of various sizes and weights in the loading, hauling, and unloading of various equipment, materials, and supplies.

2. Operates trucks and construction or power equipment, such as mechanized broom, back- hoe, bucket truck, loader, dump truck, snow plow, and jetter/inductor truck.

3. Operates jackhammers, mowers, and other small equipment and tools to maintain street and utility systems.

4. Performs routine inspection and preventive maintenance, to include cleaning of assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to a supervisor.

5. Assists in installing and maintenance of traffic control devices.

6. Performs all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.

7. Serves as grounds person of Township building, parks and cemeteries.

8. Controls Traffic at worksites.

Desired Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

1. Graduation from High School or GED equivalent.

2. Two (2) years of experience involving the use of medium and heavy equipment.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

1. An Operator will possess considerable knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principles.

2. An Operator will possess working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operations.

3. An Operator will possess a working knowledge of the methods, materials, and tools used in street and utility maintenance work.

4. An Operator will be skilled in the operation of listed tools and equipment.

5. An Operator will be able to communicate, construct, understand, and follow oral and written instructions.

6. An Operator will possess the ability to observe and follow proper safety precautions.

7. An Operator will possess the ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees, supervisors and the public.

8. An Operator will possess the ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying conditions.

9. An Operator will possess the ability to work from construction specifications or blueprints.

Special Requirements

Possession, or ability to obtain a State of Ohio operator and CDL license.

Tools and Equipment Used

Motorized vehicles and equipment, including back-hoe, dump truck, pickup truck, utility truck, street sweeper, jetter/inductor truck, snow plow, street roller, bucket truck, tamper, plate compactor, saws, pumps, compressors, sanders, generators, common hand and power tools, shovels, wrenches, detections devises, mobile radio, phone, ditch witch, and any other similar tool or equipment necessary in the completion of duties.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and vibration. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and is occasional exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock.

The Operator will be exposed to noise levels in the work environment varying from loud machine generated noises to quiet.

Pay: $24.05 - $26.72 per hour
