Purpose of Position:
Under general supervision of the Manager Electrical Technology, this position is responsible for electrical, data (LAN/WAN), telecommunications, CCTV, door access control, fire alarm, master clock, public address system work associated with the maintenance, repair and remodeling work for all Madison Metropolitan School District facilities. The position requires varied working hours and availability on an emergency basis.
General Responsibilities:
  • Completing electrical work associated with maintenance and repair activities.
    Installing new electrical work associated with remodeling work.
  • Visiting each building frequently to test its electrical equipment and complete maintenance operation.
  • Maintaining preventive maintenance logs and charts for electrical equipment in cooperation with building custodians.
  • Researching new products, procedures, services, and equipment.
  • Troubleshooting building electrical systems problems and making recommendations and cost estimates for their solution.
  • Participating in hands-on repairs, installation, and maintenance.
  • Obtaining required electrical building permits.
  • Estimating and procuring materials.
  • Installing clocks, public address, control, data, telephone, communication, CCTV, door access control and fire alarm wiring.
  • Maintaining records of materials and labor associated with assigned work. Develop and maintain a work schedule.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
  • Recognized as a journeyman electrician by an appropriate authority or documentable training and experience equivalent to a journeyman.
  • Graduate of a recognized apprentice program for electrician or equivalent training and experience.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and personal vehicle required.
  • Knowledge of federal, state, and local codes, regulations, and ordinances relating to construction activities and specifically with electrical work.
  • Considerable knowledge and ability with electrical layout and estimating procedures.
  • Knowledge of and ability in electrical rough-in work and ability in electrical wiring.
  • Proven knowledge of and ability in working the construction plans, shop drawings, and material specifications.
  • Proven ability to work cooperatively and effectively with co-workers, contractors, technical consultants, students and the public.
  • Knowledge and skill in troubleshooting electrical in service work for motors, panels, lights, etc.
Physical and Sensory Requirements:
  • This job is physically demanding - medium to heavy work. There is constant standing, walking, and moving depending on day to day tasks. There will be frequent pushing and pulling of loads up to 70 pounds. There is frequent bending, stooping, and utilizing proper lifting techniques loads up to 50 pounds. There is frequent sitting, driving, squatting, crouching, ladder and stair climbing, able to handle 30 ft heights, crawling, reaching, kneeling, lifting up to 75 pounds, and repetitive movements with both hands. Verbal and auditory communication is frequently used. Near and far vision acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and feeling are frequently utilized.
Environmental Adaptability
  • May require working outdoors, evenings and weekends. Occasional shift and work location changes may also be required.
