Under general supervision and acting in a lead capacity assists, trains and directs the work of custodians assigned to the building.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plans and prioritizes the work of the custodial team based upon specific building activities and needs on a daily basis aligned to timely pre-determined District standards.
  • Performs the duties of a Custodial Worker I and the Building Custodian and sets a standard of performance by modeling excellent work.
  • Ability to cover for the Building Custodian as needed.
  • Problem solves issues related to custodial services with school and building services staff.
  • Monitors and communicates maintenance needs to appropriate staff.
  • Responsible for processing work orders and check/print building permits.
  • Responsible for training and directing the day to day work of custodial worker(s).
  • Monitor use of facilities by groups issued a building permit and establish appropriate work activities based upon permits. Ability to print permits
  • Dress appropriately per Employee Handbook section 3.29, with Photo I.D. visible.
  • Check and secure building at the end of the shifts.
  • Ability to read, follow directions and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge and appropriate use of cleaning materials, solutions and procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with and serve school district personnel, students and the community.
  • Respond timely to all communication received eg. email, voice messages
  • Work requires walking, lifting, climbing, bending, reaching and kneeling.
  • A variety of related duties as assigned, including but not limited to, light electrical (ballasts, cord plugs), light plumbing (aerators,plunging) and pencil sharpeners.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward improving one's own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.

Qualifications

  • Six months custodial experience with MMSD.
  • Skill in leading and directing others with at least one year of experience working in a lead worker position.
  • Skill and demonstrated success in managing multiple priorities in a timely manner.
  • Skill in planning, prioritizing and executing the work activities of the custodial team.
  • Familiarity with entering and handling work orders and building permits.
  • Experience training, coaching and providing input to the evaluation of staff on custodian techniques and proper procedures.
  • Ability to motivate and encourage staff to complete assignments timely and accurately.
  • Valid Wisconsin Driver’s License
  • Demonstrated willingness to work BC I shift with short notice.
