Purpose of Position:

Under general supervision, is responsible for all facets of facilities maintenance.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

CSWI, CSWII, CSWIII occasionally

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Performs all the duties of a Custodial Worker I, Custodian II, Custodian Worker III and the Building Custodian I, II and III and sets a standard of performance by modeling excellent work aligned to timely pre-determined District standards.
  • Ability to cover for the Building Custodian as needed at various locations.
  • Provide training to District custodial staff.
  • Dress appropriately per Employee Handbook section 3.29, with Photo I.D. visible.
  • Repair, maintain and install building equipment.
  • Maintain building grounds, including grass cutting and trimming, snow removal, tree and brush trimming, and irrigation.
  • Maintain and operate grounds equipment, including tractors, snow removal equipment, rototillers and aeration equipment.
  • Operate, repair and maintain heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, including compressors, electrical (eg ballasts, switches, outlets) and mechanical controls, filters, motors, pumps, coils, and piping systems.
  • Perform basic carpentry, plumbing tasks and/or assist trades workers, district technicians and/or contractors with installation, maintenance and repair of various building components.
  • Maintain boilers and log sheet and perform safety tests.
  • Operate, repair and maintain components of high school swimming pools, including chlorination, filtration, ventilation, and mechanical circulation systems.
  • Open building, start equipment, and perform building security check.
  • Assist in preparation of facilities to accommodate building permits.
  • Other related duties including grounds, daily custodial cleaning tasks and laundry work.
  • Respond timely to all communication received eg. email, voice messages
  • Work in other locations as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of building maintenance including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, pneumatic controls, electrical, plumbing, swimming pools, and grounds.
  • Demonstrated success or prior experience in covering for Building Custodian
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety procedures.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students, staff, parents, and the community orally and in writing.
  • Work requires walking, lifting, climbing, bending, reaching, and kneeling.
  • Maintain valid Wisconsin Driver’s License.
  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward one’s own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one’s skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.
  • This job is physically demanding - medium to heavy work. There is constant standing, walking, and moving depending on day to day tasks. There will be frequent pushing and pulling of loads up to 70 pounds. There is frequent bending, stooping, and utilizing proper lifting techniques loads up to 50 pounds. There is frequent sitting, driving, squatting, crouching, ladder and stair climbing, able to handle 30 ft heights, crawling, reaching, kneeling, lifting up to 75 pounds, and repetitive movements with both hands. Verbal and auditory communication is frequently used. Near and far vision acuity, depth perception, accommodation, field of vision, and feeling are frequently utilized.
