Application Close date: May 31, 2024 Essential Duties - Substitutes provide support in the accepted assignment. The following are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. Other responsibilities may be required and assigned. Hearing Interpreter/Sign Language -
Interpret or transliterate any information presented in academic classes or extracurricular activities for students who are deaf or hard of hearing; as assigned by the Hearing Impaired staff.
Serve as a communication link for the student with a hearing loss and must also voice for a student whose speech is not intelligible.
Collaborate with the regular education teachers to explain or review the interpreter's role and responsibilities in the mainstream classroom.
Voice accurately for the deaf student(s) in any classroom or school-related situation.
Accurately sign for other deaf students if a question is spoken but not signed by a deaf classmate.

Qualifications:
Provide evidence of competency as an Educational Interpreter in one or more of the following:
Bachelor of Arts degree or higher in interpreting,
Technical degree in training at a college, university or technical school, association with a professional organization such as Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (R.I.D.),
Long term association with deaf people thus enabling a person to develop the skill
Strong competency in oral and written English.
Work requires ambulatory movement, lifting up to 50-lbs. unassisted, climbing, bending, reaching, and kneeling.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bilingual in English and Hmong and/or Spanish
