Job Description:

This is a coffee job. Yes, a coffee “job”. But for the most part, a “fun” job. What the hell is a “fun” job? A job with people who give a sh*!. With people who don’t take life, or themselves, too seriously. Where we can learn, grow and thrive together. And where we are passionate about the product and service we provide. A job where hopefully everyone involved feels like they are truly a part of it.

But for your potential job specifically? This is to oversee our retail operations. So ya sorta need to be a good manager. And you know, a people person. Ideally work well with numbers and have good marketing ideas. But ultimately, care about the local community and all people who walk through those doors

If you have an ego or like being bossy, best pass on now. Everyone at MP has a voice. We hear everyone's thoughts and opinions. We move slower. We don’t extract. If you feel you can balance caring for folks while navigating hard conversations and solving problems and ensuring everyone is valued, read on!

Duties and Responsibilities:

~ Oversee and manage retail operations

~ Assist and manage all staff related to retail location(s)

~ Manage costs, labor and waste

~ Assess current SOPS & systems and create new ones as needed

~ Run schedule & payroll

~ Hire new retail staff (with the COO) & do all necessary training for new staff

~ Inventory management

~ Track sales analytics and growth projections

~ Implement monthly budget for sales and growth

~ Meet weekly with the COO

~ Work the espresso bar and filling open shifts as needed (x1 floor shift/week)

~ Train and work with the lead barista on barista skills, leadership skills, sales & customer service skills

~ Create monthly KPIs for the COO/CEO to include: Inventory, Sales, Discounts, Average transaction value, Customers served, New versus returning customers, Top selling item, Top selling category, Best day of the week, Best hour of the week, Guest reviews, Staff updates

Education & Experience:

What even is education? Look, we don’t really look to see if you chose to go into debt based on what societal pressures were placed upon you. Can it be helpful? Sure. Do we require it? No. We care more about world experience and soft skills, though a few hard skills don’t hurt. Even a dash of street smarts is nice. Ideally, this candidate would have worked in the coffee industry for 4 years with a strong understanding of coffee and the coffee industry.

~ Passed the 3rd grade comfortably

~ 3 years Barista/Coffee experience REQUIRED (pretentiousness not required)

~ 2 years Management experience REQUIRED

~ 18 years experience learning to be a better human

Knowledge/Skills Required:

Okay - so here is the nitty gritty of knowledge & skills we would like to see!

Do you know where coffee comes from? Do you know how many hands touch coffee throughout the supply chain? Do you know how to pull a well extracted shot of espresso? How about geographical origins, variables of growing coffee or coffee varieties? Can you teach others how to brew a damn fine cup of coffee? Do you know how to use excel, create sheets and manage general costs? Can you navigate most computer apps? Do you know how to read the room, or gauge where a conversation is going? Do you initiate? Are you a problem solver? Do you have a good attitude? Self starter? Positive? Authentic? Communicative? Transparent? Adaptable?

Let’s chat more about the above if you think you can fill the part.

Work Environment:

Let’s be clear, we are small. We are a 8-year-old bootstrapped family run business. You’re not coming in to oversee a 5 million operation at that salary. You are joining a small team of dedicated individuals who have a long term strategy and goals. We have fun. But we are serious about quality. We like to work hard, play hard. We like to be open about direction and are transparent about money. We discuss money and look at quarterly P&L statements. We do quarterly outings. We encourage each other while calling out bullshit. All of this is setting the stage for us to be a team that each fulfills their role, with their gifts, and hyper focus, to grow this company and benefit from said growth. We are currently working on a profit sharing and equity program. Ultimately, it’s a little messy. But we’re growing. We believe in becoming “better”, and though we have a long way to go, each year marks significant progress.
