Description

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Under general direction of the Director of Behavioral Health Services, Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) is responsible for evaluation, creation and implementation of a strength-based, positive approach behavior plan; responsible for data collection and consultation and training with guardians and staff. The BCBA or Behavior Therapist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to develop person-centered behavior plans to support the individual behavior and skill development needs of each person served. As a member of the interdisciplinary team (IDT) represents Macon Resources, Inc. (MRI) in planning individualized programs, evaluating service effectiveness, and in assuring services are provided in accordance with local, state and federal laws; licensure/certification/accreditation standards; and agency policies and procedures.

ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provides behavioral supports and skills development through the creation of organic or simulated conditions to observe the behavior of each person served.
  • Conducts descriptive and functional behavior assessments and develops positive evidenced based individual behavioral support plans. Formulates an appropriate treatment plan and skill acquisition plans that are sensitive to the cognitive, social, emotional, and sensory needs of persons served.
  • Provides support, instruction, and feedback to staff on data collection while providing ongoing supports with regard to managing challenging behaviors and teaching replacement behaviors through the principles of ABA.
  • Monitors, collects and analyzes behavior tracking, adjusting interventions as needed based on data.
  • Develops & maintains a therapeutic relationship with person served, guardian(s), and staff, as assigned by the supervisor, to enhance effective treatment implementation and monitoring.
  • Demonstrates flexibility of time in meeting each persons support needs, as well as that of staff.
  • Maintains weekly contact with people supported and staff in order to be able to quickly identify the need for behavioral support adjustments, staff training, and effective use of evidence based training procedures.
  • Collaborates with families and collateral service providers as needed to ensure plans are developed in a manner that fully addresses a persons needs. Advise and facilitate outreach to community resources and act as a liaison and/or advocate for person served to use services and resources effectively.
  • Document in electronic records in a timely, accurate, and clinically sound way, and communicate critical information to supervisor and/or IDT.
  • Supervise and train ABA technicians; implement, model and monitor progress of individualized behavior support and skill plans with ABA technicians.
  • Assumes the responsibility to attend and complete the initial MRI training requirements (core training and job-specific training). On an ongoing basis, attends and participates in any required recertification or refresher sessions and/or other training deemed appropriate by the super-visor and/or the Program/Department Manager/Director within specified time frames.
  • Completes Continuing Education Units as required as well as participating in agency in-service training sessions as assigned by the supervisor and/or Program/Department Director and/or on a voluntary basis to enhance one's knowledge and skills.
  • Drives safely in an official capacity to conduct agency business for MRI and, on occasion, may provide transportation to individuals/families served; observes all local, state and federal laws, as well as all agency policies and procedures.
  • Communicates, retains, and releases information (both written and verbal) on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and Macon Resources, Inc. Policies and Procedures.

Qualifications


JOB QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have a current BCBA Certification
  • Must have Master's Degree in human service field.
  • Obtain and maintain Safety Care Specialist status.
  • One year experience with the developmentally disabled and/or DD/MI.
  • Must be able to maintain payroll, financial, personnel, and information related to persons served as confidential and in accordance with the Mental Health and Developmental Disabilities Confidentiality Act and the Policies and Procedures of Macon Resources, Inc.
  • Must be able to adhere to the Safety Policies and Procedures of MRI.
  • Must be able to complete MRI training requirements.
  • Must have or be able to obtain first-aid and CPR certification within 60 days of employment and maintain certification throughout employment.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of developmental disabilities, mental illness, active treatment, principles of normalization, inclusion, least restrictive environment, choice, integration, self-empowerment, and functional skill development.
  • Must be able to adapt to frequent change and perform adequately when confronted with critical or unexpected issues; make sound clinical judgments based on sound reasoning in daily and emergency situations.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and diplomatically in both oral and written form and be able to meet and work with the public.
  • Must be able to identify and implement creative solutions to problems.
  • Must be able to organize and prioritize work.
  • Must have reliable transportation to conduct agency business and/or to transport individuals served as needed; must maintain a valid Illinois Drivers License and a good Motor Vehicle Record; and must maintain personal auto insurance with minimum coverage of Bodily Injury-Liability per Person of $100,000 and Liability per Accident of $300,000, Property Liability of $100,000; Medical Payments of $5,000; and Uninsured/Underinsured Person of $100,000 and Accident of $300,000.
  • Must be able to perform the following:
    1. Sit and/or stand for prolonged periods of time.
    2. Bend, twist, stoop or kneel.
    3. Vision correctable to 20/20 or sufficient to complete job responsibilities.
    4. Exhibit manual dexterity.
    5. Adequate hearing.
