Overview

The Fountainhead Group is looking for an onsite Packaging Engineer to join our FGI Family and support as a member of the Product Engineering Team. Relocation Package Available!! 

Packaging Engineering has the responsibility for all packaging and labeling used in the manufacture and distribution of retails products, including retail packaging and overpacks, and manufacturing WIP packaging. The Packaging Engineer would be responsible for the development and testing of new packaging, configuring and optimizing packaging for manufacturing/warehousing/shipping, building a corporate packaging strategy, and packaging cost reductions.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for development and testing of all packaging for new and existing products as the company’s “Go To” person for packaging.
  • Lead and manage the packaging development process by working with Product Engineering, Marketing, Graphic Designers, Sales, and Customers on retail packaging development.
  • Participate in cross-function teams that launch new products or setup new customers, by owning responsibility for identifying and solving all packaging-related challenges facing the teams.
  • Develop Retail Carton and Overpack structures that balance performance requirements and cost.
  • Develop dielines and markings.
  • Coordinate packaging development and testing with packaging suppliers, including written reports to document testing and results.
  • Develop hang cards, clam packs, blister packs, and other small retail packaging solutions for use with accessories, spare parts, and kits.
  • Work with Marketing and Sales to configure and setup retail parts kits and accessories with appropriate packaging.
  • Take a proactive approach to monitor customer-specific packaging and palletizing requirements, and ensure products comply.
  • Assign and manage product barcodes.
  • Manage RFID label process.
  • Design, source, and qualify Silk Screens for use in Silk Screening logos and information on to products.
  • Develop a corporate packaging strategy, standards, and best practices to control all packaging.
  • Drive cost reductions in manufacturing and retail packaging.
  • Manage packaging projects including design, timeline, cost, and working with manufacturing or suppliers.
  • Create purchase requisitions for prototypes, materials, tooling, or equipment as needed to support projects.
  • Utilize the Engineering Change Notice process to communicate engineering changes throughout the company.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities within the engineering department and with other departments.
  • Provide Packaging Engineering support to Production Control, Manufacturing, QC, and Purchasing on disposition and corrective action for non-conforming material.
  • Adhere to all department policies and procedures.
  • Engineering tasks as assigned by the V.P., Engineering to include but not limited to idea generation, problem solving, investigation, cost analysis, feasibility research, manufacturability research, detail design, design validation, manufacturing validation and support, QC support, documentation, cost reduction.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 4-year degree in Packaging Sciences or Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • 3 years of experience in a Packaging Engineering position at a manufacturing facility.
  • Ability to work independently on specific assignments related to the design and testing of packaging.
  • Detailed knowledge of corrugated packaging, including ability to develop specs and dielines, and work with packaging suppliers on development.
  • Ability to develop dielines and material specifications for cartons, boards, hang cards, other paper products, and adhesive labels.
  • Ability to communicate directly with manufacturing and suppliers.
  • Ability to work with customers to develop packaging solutions for their products.
  • Experience with Adobe Illustrator or similar graphic design software.
  • Experience with MS Office Products – Word, Excel, PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 years of experience developing retail packaging.
  • 3 years of driving cost reductions in manufacturing and retail packaging.
  • Experience working directly with suppliers to coordinate packaging development and production.
  • Experience developing and certifying Frustration-Free and SIOC Packaging for Amazon.
  • Detailed understanding of ISTA and similar transportation testing of packaging.
  • Detailed understanding of domestic and international packaging regulations.
  • Detailed understanding of, and experience working with, barcodes and QR codes.
  • Detailed understanding of, and experience certifying, RFID labels for retail packaging.
