Position Summary

The Level 2 Designer - Bridge Inspection position at Mackin takes on a more substantial role, actively participating in bridge inspections and leveraging increased responsibilities to contribute to the overall success of projects. Salary:

$53,600 - $69,700 USD/Year

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Assist with comprehensive inspections of bridges (structural inspections of all structure types), ensuring compliance with safety regulations, codes, and industry standards
  • Assist senior staff in analyzing and evaluating bridge conditions, identifying structural deficiencies and recommending appropriate maintenance or rehabilitation measures
    • Check the work of experienced PEs to gain insight into the engineering process
  • Establish competency with inspection reports and drawings, including findings, recommendations, and cost estimates
    • Assist with statements of interest, technical proposals, and price proposals as needed
    • Learn and use iForms, BMS2, and National Bridge Elements (NBE)
  • Participate with project teams and clients (if applicable) to address engineering challenges and assist with developing effective solutions
  • Learn engineering software and tools for structural analysis and modeling
  • Stay current with industry trends, regulations, codes, and emerging technologies in bridge inspection
  • Maintain billability percentage set by leadership
  • Ability to express both technical and non-technical issues and ideas clearly
  • Contribute to the overall success of Mackin by supporting internal departments, providing exemplary service to clients, and striving to meet on-going initiatives to grow and develop the company

Non-Essential Duties

  • Participate in job fairs and career fairs to support marketing initiatives and talent requisition
  • Participate in professional and engineering society conferences
  • Contribute and serve on committees and subcommittees
  • Participate in research and development opportunities and projects
  • Advise management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, client relations, and/or inter-departmental relations
  • Duties, responsibilities, and activities may change or be assigned at any time with or without notice

Supervisory Responsibilities

This role does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Job Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual might have knowledge of:

  • PennDOT Programs and Standard Drawings
  • ECMS and BMS2 Systems
  • AutoCAD/MicroStation and sUAS (Drone)
  • PennDOT Bridge Inspection and Load Rating Analysis Policies and Procedures
  • Advanced Analysis Software (STAAD)
  • Inspection Access Equipment Capabilities and Common Traffic Control Patterns
  • Deltek Ajera
  • Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and Teams
  • Computers, Printers, and Electronics

Education and/or Experience

Preferred Qualifications

Years of Experience:

Minimum of 1 year of experience in the engineering field or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Education:

BA or BS Degree required

Degree or Formal Training:

Civil Engineering or a related discipline

License, Certificate or Registration:

Certified Bridge Safety Inspector (CBSI) and Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certificate are required
