Role Summary:

The Senior Aerodynamicist will play a critical role in shaping the aerodynamic properties of our next-generation defense and aerospace products. With a focus on utilizing advanced computational fluid dynamics (CFD) tools and wind tunnel testing, this position will be a technical leader in a fast-paced, evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. CFD Analysis:
    Employ elite proficiency in commercial CFD tools like Ansys Fluent or Star-CCM to conduct high-level aerodynamic studies.

  2. Wind Tunnel Testing:
    Plan, execute, and analyze wind tunnel test campaigns, leveraging the results to improve design and performance.

  3. Rapid Iteration:
    Carefully adapt to rapidly changing requirements and work closely with designers and vehicle performance engineers to frequently refine outer mold lines through analysis and flight data review.

  4. Communication:
    Clearly and concisely convey complex aerodynamic findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring effective decision-making.

  5. Cross-Platform Proficiency:
    Utilize non-commercial CFD codes like OpenFOAM, SU2, and FUN3D when necessary, showcasing versatility in tool usage.

  6. Adaptability:
    Be ready to tackle whatever needs to get done, whether it falls directly within the job description or not.

  7. Documentation:
    Create and maintain detailed records and reports of aerodynamic analyses and testing outcomes for future reference and regulatory compliance.

  8. Team Collaboration:
    Work closely with engineers from other disciplines to create integrated solutions that meet project goals and deadlines.

  9. Quality Assurance:
    Implement quality control measures to ensure the accuracy and reliability of aerodynamic studies and tests.

  10. Technical Mentorship:
    Share expertise and knowledge with junior aerodynamicists and other team members to foster a culture of continuous learning.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in aerodynamics or related fields, with a focus on defense or aerospace applications.

  • Demonstrated track record in wind tunnel test campaigns.

  • Elite proficiency in commercial CFD tools like Ansys Fluent or Star-CCM .

  • Proficiency in non-commercial CFD codes like OpenFOAM, SU2, and FUN3D is desirable.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or a related field.

The salary range for this role is an estimate based on a wide range of compensation factors, inclusive of base salary only. Actual salary offers may vary based on (but not limited to) work experience, education and training, critical skills, and business considerations. Highly competitive equity grants are included in most offers and are considered part of Mach’s total compensation package.
