JOB OVERVIEW:

Support and consistently reinforce the Mission and Core Values of M&D Mechanical Contractors, Inc. A construction materials Expeditor is tasked with the safe and efficient transportation of construction materials from suppliers or warehouses to construction sites. Leveraging specialized vehicles suitable for bulky or heavy loads, they ensure that materials are securely loaded, transported, and offloaded without damage. Given the unique challenges of construction zones, this role requires an understanding of site-specific safety protocols and the ability to navigate often congested or uneven terrains. Communication with project managers, site superintendents, supply chain and shop teams is crucial to coordinate delivery timings, access points, loading and offloading procedures. Their dedication to punctuality and safety directly impacts construction timelines and the overall integrity of building projects.

FUNCTIONAL DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS:

  • Material Transportation: Securely and safely transport construction materials from suppliers or warehouses to designated construction sites.
  • Vehicle Maintenance: Ensuring specialized construction material delivery vehicles, which might include flatbed trucks or vehicles with heavy load capacities, are well-maintained, clean, and in optimal working condition.
  • Site Coordination: Liaising with construction site superintendents or foremen to coordinate the ideal delivery time and location.
  • Safety Compliance: Adhering to construction site safety protocols, including wearing appropriate safety equipment (PPE) and site-specific guidelines.
  • Documentation: Maintaining accurate records of material deliveries, quantities, and any discrepancies or damages.
  • Load Securement: Ensuring construction materials like pipe, duct, and equipment are properly secured for transit to prevent any potential damage or shifting.
  • Unloading Assistance: Assisting or overseeing the offloading process at construction sites, which might involve coordinating with equipment operators if heavy machinery is required.
  • Route Planning: Mapping and scheduling routes that can accommodate larger vehicles or heavy loads, while also considering the accessibility of construction sites.
  • Material Inspection: Checking the integrity of construction materials both during loading and unloading to note any damages or discrepancies.
  • Time Management: Adjusting schedules based on construction site dynamics, material availability, or unforeseen challenges such as traffic diversions.
  • Feedback Relay: Communicating any issues related to material quality, quantity, or site access back to suppliers, company, or site management.
  • Safety Checks: Regularly inspecting the vehicle's load-bearing capabilities, brake systems, and other relevant features to ensure safe transport of construction materials.
  • Site Navigation: Skillfully maneuvering the vehicle in potentially tight or congested construction areas, and parking or positioning the vehicle for optimal unloading.

QUALIFICATION STANDARDS:

  • Minimum of high school education or GED equivalent
  • Previous warehouse or local delivery service experience desired
  • Required to read and write English
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Class B drivers license – CDL preferred
  • No DWI or vehicle citations
  • Must be organized
  • Must understand and execute verbal instructions
  • Must be able to ownership of task performance
  • Must be able to manage to schedule requirements
  • Strong TEAM player

PHYSICAL INVOLVEMENT:

Employee may be required to do the following: climbing ladders, scaffolds, structures, etc. above and below ground level; maintaining balance on ladders, scaffolds structures, etc.; reaching in all directions, handling and manipulating objects and materials; coordinating the movements of eyes, hands and fingers to operate tools and equipment; lifting 30 to 50 pounds from ground level, waist level, and/or overhead; carrying objects, tools, equipment, etc.; standing; sitting; walking; pushing; pulling; bending; kneeling; crouching/squatting; crawling; seeing with or without correction; hearing with or without correction.

MENTAL INVOLVEMENT:

Employee may be required to do the following: following set procedures and standards; applying basic mathematical skills; planning work and selecting proper tools; comparing and understanding differences in the size, shape and form of lines, figures, and objects; picturing and evaluating solid objects from drawing or diagrams using standards that can be measured or checked, following oral and/or written directions, plans and blueprints; reading; writing; ability to recognize and report safety hazards.

WORK ENVIROMENT FACTORS:

  • Location: industrial construction sites and/or office environment
  • Mobility Barriers to Access Job Site: uneven ground level; obstructed pathways
  • Climatic/Environmental Conditions at Job Site: predominately indoor climate; various noise levels caused by tools, machinery, equipment, etc., potential exposure to chemical substances.
