The teacher is responsible for planning and implementing a program which creates an environment in which students can learn and develop optimally.

Role and Responsibilities
The duties of the Lower Elementary teacher may include, but are not limited to the following tasks:

Instruction

  • Providing instruction to students
  • Willingly assisting the instructional process in its many forms
  • Supporting school-wide instructional initiatives
  • Gathering student data through observation, dialogue, testing tools, etc., and designing strategies to meet student needs
  • Remaining current with Louisiana Student Standards and other instructional requirements.
  • Use a variety of activities and instructional methods (songs, stories, media, structured games, art, outdoor activities, etc) to motivate and stimulate children’s abilities

Assessment

  • Conducting regular formative and summative student assessment
  • Maintaining an accurate and current gradebook, tracking student data, and drafting report cards.
  • Conducting school-wide benchmark assessments

Other Duties

  • Effectively communicating with school administrators, teachers, student service personnel, parents regarding student performance and plans for improvement
  • Participating in Student Assistance Team (SAT) meetings as needed
  • Supporting students and administration in Positive Behavior Intervention and Support philosophy
  • Assisting students in adopting a behavior conducive to success in the classroom setting
  • Participating in faculty meetings and professional learning communities meetings
  • Assisting in orientation and open houses if requested
  • Modeling non-discriminatory practices in all activities
  • Performing other job related functions as may be assigned
  • Being punctual, reviewing and following all Staff Handbook policies and procedures
  • Attending Professional Development sessions

Community-Based Learning Initiatives

  • Assisting in the delivery of curriculum that utilizes community resources to enrich the learning experiences of students

Expectations, Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Fluency in French and knowledge and experience in the French curriculum
  • Experience in instruction in an elementary, middle, or secondary school setting
  • Flexibility and a team-spirit work ethic
  • Well developed interpersonal skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Louisiana Certification
  • Three or more years teaching experience in lower elementary grades
  • Experience in differentiating instruction, and supporting students with learning challenges

Pay: $35,992.00 - $67,990.00 per year
