Responsibility statement:
Operational management and oversight of the VCU Child Development Center;
Advancement of the CDC’s strategic goals through innovative new programs, services, and practices;
Collaboration with internal and external constituents to achieve overall strategic goals, licensing and accreditation;
Instruction.

Primary Purpose and General Responsibilities:
Our mission is to provide high quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood education and care for children, including those of VCU faculty, staff, and students, along with children from the surrounding communities to serve as a model and resource to families, students, and the community. The Director is responsible for leadership, management, and oversight of a high quality Child Development Center, and overall welfare of all enrolled children in the Child Development Center. The Director will oversee programming and administration for a nationally accredited and state licensed Child Development Center; provide a quality educational and developmentally appropriate program for children ages 16 months through five years, including those with special needs; foster an inclusive environment for diverse staff, children, and families; collaborate with VCU faculty members to provide an exemplary clinical setting for university students and for grant implementation activities; provide a laboratory setting for faculty and student research; collaborate with other center directors on various initiatives.

Summary of Duties:
• Oversees daily operations, programming and administration for a nationally accredited and state licensed Child Development Center.
• Recruitment and enrollment management of CDC.
• Hires and provides direct supervision to CDC staff and volunteers.
• Develops and oversees the budget with the School of Education Director of Finance
• Works closely with staff, parents, and a parent advisory council.
• Develops strategies, working with the SOE Dean for expansion/growth. 
• Provides a quality educational and developmentally appropriate program for children ages 16 months through five years, including those with special needs. 
• Responsible for maintaining licensure and accreditation.
• Collaborates with VCU faculty members to provide an exemplary clinical setting for university students and for grant implementation activities; provides a laboratory setting for faculty and student research.
• Collaborates with other center directors on various initiatives.
• Collaborates on grant proposals to secure external funding.
• Collaborates with various units, campus-wide, to increase the services provided by the center.
• May provide instruction in one or more of the VCU School of Education’s academic units (including teaching courses, seminars and support to doctoral students dissertation and capstone committees). 
• May supervise clinical experiences within the department.

Minimum Qualifications: 
• A doctoral Degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, Curriculum and Instruction, or a related field; • Experience working with preschool children;
• Effective supervisory and human relations skills;
• Management experience as an administrator, curriculum coordinator or similar position in a child development center or other pre-kindergarten program;
• A history of involvement in and sensitivity to the needs of underserved and/or under-represented groups in secondary settings is particularly valued;
• Excellent oral/written communication skills;
• Evidence of experience fostering a culture of belonging in the workplace;
• Proficiency and effectiveness in technology skills, with the ability to use technology to enhance instruction;
• Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a University and Academic Professional employee at VCU;
• Willingness to submit grants for supporting the CDC enterprise.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Doctoral degree in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field;• PreK license-administration and supervision.
• PreK-12 experience in public schools as a teacher and administrator.
• Grant writing experience

Salary Range: $93,000 - $107,800
