Position Purpose:

The Buyer coordinates activities involved with procuring goods and services such as outside processing, components & raw materials, equipment, tools, parts, & supplies services for the organization. 

Main Responsibilities:

The main activities of the position include but are not limited to the following:

• Evaluate prospective suppliers, determining such factors as capability, quality/delivery performance, lead time, present market conditions, total cost of ownership (price material overhead), payment terms, discounts offered and availability.
• Responsible to run, evaluate and place PO’s for MRP driven requirements to ensure zero stock out scenarios and optimize stock levels.
• Process purchase order requisitions from all requesting areas, analyze and determine that each is complete and clear regarding General Ledger account numbers, Quality and Engineering specifications.
• Secure the supply of consumable supplies as needed, using JIT, KAN BAN or best stock replenishment methodology.
• Establish the best price and delivery schedule, including all INCOTERMS and tax exemption terms.
• Evaluate and suggest the best method of pricing and/or negotiation strategy to be used.
• Maintain procurement records in accordance with company policies and procedures.
• Constantly research new sources of materials and services for better product knowledge and to secure lowest Total Cost of Ownership (TCO).
• Evaluate market conditions of related commodities to seek price reductions through suppliers, quantity/volume discounts, long-term agreements, and value analysis.
• Maintain production supplies by monitoring and placing orders accordingly to support production requirements, incorporate and manage Vendor Managed Inventory programs; Kan Ban, JIT or most convenient restocking methodology.
• Secure payment resolution between suppliers and internal A/P and work to avoid repeat issues that caused them.
• Responsible for supplier performance monitoring and management. Develops suppliers on specific performance requirements & commitments. Recommends appropriate metrics for assigned commodities to drive supplier and commodity specific performance improvement goals.
• Accountable for inventory and working capital levels for related procurement commodities.
• Monitors and drives Purchase Price Variance to reach company’s material cost improvement goals.
• Assists in the development and enhancement of related business processes; systems and reporting capabilities to drive efficiencies in providing procurement services for the organization

Education and/or Experience:

• Bachelor’s Degree from a four (4) year college or university in Business Management/Administration preferred.
• 1-3 years related experience in manufacturing environment in the areas of purchasing, inventory control, MRP, cycle counting, Kanban, and Supplier performance management.
• Must have previous MRP experience, SAP experience highly preferred.
• Proficiency with MS Office Software including Word, PowerPoint, Excel.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Good organizational skills
• Strong multi-Tasker
