Lutheran Services Florida is Hiring a Community Outreach Coordinator (036039) Near Jacksonville, FL

Lutheran Services Florida (LSF) envisions a world where children are safe, families are strong, and communities are vibrant.

LSF is seeking a talented Community Outreach Coordinator who wants to make an impact in the lives of others.

Purpose and Impact:

Coordinates community and outreach activities on behalf of Lutheran Services Florida (LSF), Children and Head Start Services. Assist program leadership with the planning, evaluation and identification of needs for community outreach services. Coordinates volunteer services. Works as part of Regional Program management team to gather input and match community resources to needs of the Program. 

Essential Functions:

  • Build collaborative working relationships with community agencies/partners and internal stakeholders. Represents Children and Head Start Services at community meetings or events. 
  • Plans and coordinators volunteer services, including support with recruitment of volunteers, processing their applications, hosting orientation and other training as needed. Monitors volunteers hours and completion of required background screening, as needed, to ensure compliance with Federal and State Monitors risk management concerns related to volunteers and consults with supervisor on maintaining compliance with local, state and federal regulations. 
  • Assists in the development and implementation of departmental policies, procedures, and services. 
  • Oversees planning and coordination of major program events, such as parent conference, volunteer and parent banquets, health fairs, . Assists program staff with planning and promoting Children and Head Start Services activities for yearly events, i.e., week of the young child, head start awareness month.Coordinators with department managers implementation of various Head Start Advisory Committees, such as Health Services Advisory Committee, School Readiness Committee, etc. Assist in identification of community partners who can serve on those committees.
  • Coordinates the preparation of marketing and communication plans to promote Children and Head Start Services in concert with Children and Head Start Services Statewide Community Outreach and Engagement staff and the LSF Marketing and Development
  • Provides HS/EHS small grants coordination by identifying local opportunities, including in-kind donations and other Non-Federal Share funds to support the Program with meeting their required Non-Federal Share
  • Reviews In-kind documents for accuracy and 
  • Conducts training events regarding Non-Federal Share with HS/EHS to include Child Care Partner & Delegate Agency staff.
  • Manages process to ensure compliance and accuracy for community outreach reporting in accordance with program monitoring system or funders’ reporting requirements. 
  • Coordinates and manages bi-monthly parent newsletters for the Head Start/Early Head Start program. 
  • Attends and participates in workshops and other meetings to acquire and disseminate information to Head Start/Early Head Start staff.
  • Maintains strict confidentiality with respect to Head Start/Early Head Start children, families and staff in accordance with established policies and procedures. 
  • Attends all workshops and meetings as deemed necessary by the supervisor. 
  • Attends all required staff and parent meetings and activities.
  • Performs other related duties as required.

 Education: Baccalaureate degree or higher from an accredited college or university with a major in communications, marketing, business, social work, political science, public relations, or any related field/degree. 

Experience: Two year experience working in community activities either through volunteer or professional experience.

Bilingual preferred: English/Spanish or English and other languages present in the local area. 

Also required: Successful completion of a Level II background screening, local criminal record check and drug screening prior to hiring.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage time effectively to meet deadlines for multiple projects.
  • Ability to be a self-starter and manage tasks and projects without significant supervision.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to prepare and maintain work related reports and files.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Ability to use a computer and related software.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to work effectively with others.
  • Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle. 

 Other: Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.

  • Effective staff management and leadership.
