Lutheran Living Communities--Davenport Campus is Hiring a Nurse Memory Care Unit Coordinator Near Davenport, IA

Memory Care Unit (MCU) Coordinator Position:

  • Manages the secure 26 bed Memory Care Unit (MCU) Program.
  • Reports directly to the Director of Nursing.
  • develops, implements, and maintains the Memory Care Unit
  • Shall supervise residents and employees within the MCU.
  • Is an hourly position with pay commensurate in the judgment of the Administrator and COO, with experience, licensure, qualifications, and performance. Hours of work are normally Monday - Friday, with additional hours being required as the job dictates or as directed by the DON &/or Administrator.
  • Rotate On-Call responsibilities with Nurse Manager team.
  • Participate in specialized dementia training and development efforts related to improving nursing care services in the Memory Care Unit.
  • Assist in evaluation of the in-service education program, make recommendations for improvement, and participate in training programs for Memory Care Unit and facility employees.
  • Evaluate and establish an environment that provides employee initiative, job satisfaction, creativity, and motivation of professional practices, especially related to memory care.
  • Maintain discipline among those under their supervision in coordination with the Director of Nursing.
  • Follow the disciplinary procedure found in the facility's Policy and Procedure Manual when infractions of policies and procedures occur. It is the Memory Care Coordinator's responsibility to be thoroughly familiar with this disciplinary procedure.
  • Rotate On-Call responsibilities with the Nurse Manager team. On-Call rotations may include staff nursing duties in the event of critical staffing.
  • Attend daily staff meetings with the Administrator, department heads, and other key staff and report on pertinent information on residents that needs to be disseminated to the group.
  • Assume other duties such as employee orientation and training as required.
  • Attend facility functions as directed by the DON &/or Administrator. Worker Traits:
  • Verbal ability is necessary to present information and ideas essential to the Memory Care Coordinator duties. Must understand geriatric nursing theory and practice.
  • Must be able to maintain a good working relationship with nursing staff under their supervision specifically and the staff of other departments of the facility in general utilizing good communication skills with proper approach.
  • Must have the ability to plan, supervise, and coordinate activities of the nursing personnel and resident under their supervision and to make decisions regarding methods to be used.
  • Maintains a safe and secure working environment and practice safe working habits.
  • Complies with the attendance policy.
  • Must be even tempered, slow to anger, and able to think and act prudently under stress.
  • Performs other work-related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands:

  • Good physical and mental health, emotional stability and maturity are required.
  • Work may require walking, standing, or sitting for long periods of time.
  • Frequent reaching, bending, stretching, and finger dexterity will be required.
  • Talking, hearing, and writing skills will be necessary to communicate with staff, residents and others.
  • Near visual acuity as necessary to perform nursing assessments and treatments and to administer medications and solutions.
  • Works primarily inside but may be required to go outdoors to observe residents and staff as circumstances dictate.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $32.00 - $38.00 per hour
