DESCRIPTION

Lumos & Associates is looking to add dynamic, dedicated, and team-oriented people to our growing construction materials testing division. The Materials Technician I will perform geotechnical laboratory testing, observation, and inspection of construction materials (e.g. soils, aggregates, concrete, and asphalt). In addition, the Materials Technician I will manage daily work schedules, address issues from field activities, and perform equipment calibrations/certifications.

This is a full-time, entry-level position. It will be based out of our Reno office and is responsible for providing materials testing support to our Reno, Carson City, and Fallon offices.

The ideal candidate will possess the following certifications, or within 30 days of hire date:

  • Nuke Gauge Operator
  • NAQTC – Sampling/Density
  • ACI – Field Technician I
  • OSHA – 10

Preferred certifications:

  • ACI - Lab Technician 1 (Strength and Aggregate)
  • ACI - Aggregate Base
  • NAQTC - Aggregate
  • NAQTC - Asphalt

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs testing, observation, and inspection as directed in accordance with training and the specified procedures.
  • Interprets specifications and reads plans.
  • Accurately completes field/laboratory test reports.
  • Communicates results to contractors/clients, and efficiently explains discrepancies.
  • Communicates with the Materials Engineering Manager, Construction Technicians, Inspectors, and others as applicable regarding the testing and results.
  • Performs and document proficiency sample tests and assists with required ARML CCRL inspection.
  • Provides clear documentation of findings and results.
  • Performs basic analysis of data to verify accuracy before communication and submittal of test results to the Materials Engineering Manager.
  • Assists higher-level technicians on complex tasks.
  • Performs maintenance and calibrations of equipment to ensure its functioning properly, and accurately, and to ensure credibility of test results.
  • Documents repairs and problems encountered and makes accommodations for repair and/or replacement of existing equipment.
  • Other duties as assigned. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Geotechnical laboratory testing experience is preferred.
  • Computer proficient with knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word/Excel/Outlook/PowerPoint).
  • Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to provide information across multiple groups in the Company.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to carry equipment; Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Work is regularly performed for sustained periods outdoors in hot, cold, or inclement weather.
  • Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 pounds; occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 60 pounds.
  • Ability to travel regularly between offices with the use of a company runner vehicle.
  • Valid driver's license and driving record with 3 or less demerit points.
