Job Summary:

The Senior Estimator is an integral part of the construction process and ensures competitiveness, profitability, and growth. The Senior Estimator is responsible for cost estimates for various technology construction projects.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • May perform occasional supervisory functions as a backup

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Follow company Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for Estimating 
  • Develop and prepare complete cost estimates for Labor, Materials, OH per project
  • Prepare bills of material and other information for use by Construction, Purchasing, and Accounting
  • Weekly/ As needed pre-bid and pre-con meetings with Construction 
  • Site visits as needed for pre-bid meetings as needed
  • Perform field take-offs/evaluations for project estimate preparation
  • Review project documents for accuracy and consistency 
  • Assist construction personnel throughout the project life cycle in tracking and understanding cost estimates
  • Preparation and submission of Change Orders
  • Follow-up at the end of projects to evaluate bid accuracy
  • Essential functions of the position are to be performed in a Company-designated office or field location. 
  • Develop RFQs from vendors
  • Assist other members of the Estimating team with cost estimates and bid package preparation
  • Assist in the review and evaluation of Estimating staff performance
  • Participate in a team approach to most estimates and work with other estimators 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities: 

  • Excellent analytical skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Thorough understanding of cost accounting concepts
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office 365 applications
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Knowledgeable of national, state, and local building codes and technology standards
  • Able to read and understand civil, architectural, structural, mechanical, electrical, technology, etc. plans and specifications to include blueprints, proposals, and other relevant documents
  • Knowledge of products and methods of installation in traffic signal construction
  • Experience developing estimates with HeavyBid specifically or other similar software such Accubid, Bluebeam, etc.
  • Team player 
  • Self-driven with the ability to stay on-task for extended periods of time while working independently either in the office or remotely

Education and Experience:

  • 7-10 years of Construction Estimating experience with expertise in transportation and/or Electrical work
  • Experience in MEP design-build and conceptual budget pricing required
  • Field Project Management experience preferred 
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a similar field; a combination of relevant education and experience considered in lieu of a degree

Physical Requirements: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift to 20 pounds occasionally.
