Ludlow Manufacturing is Hiring a Certified Welding Inspector Near Waukegan, IL

Summary

This position will have experience in welding and fabrication, be able to read and interpret blueprints, and have a strong understanding of safety protocols. Responsible for inspection, quality assurance and quality control. Work with other technicians and professionals to complete routine field tasks and ensure welds are securely fastened. Evaluate welds to determine the structural integrity of each project. Must be Certified Welding Inspector with current valid certification. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential duties and responsibilities include the following. 

  • Daily floor inspections, documentation, weld inspections general overview of part fit-up, visual weld inspection, review of welding WPS’s & PQR’s, compliance of welding credentials and documents.
  • Performing welder certification testing per the requirements of AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code, including some minor destructive testing.
  • Writing Welder Qualification Records, PQR’s & WPS.s.
  • Maintain daily inspection Records.
  • Monitor welder qualification records.
  • Maintain company control processes, procedures, and specifications.
  • Understand the requirements of the AWS D1.1 Structural Welding Code.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings.
  • Daily verification of welding equipment and documentation.
  • Perform visual inspections of welded assemblies to verify that standards are met.
  • Verify and ensure that appropriate welding equipment is used for the work.
  • Verify and ensure that the welding is performed in compliance with the applicable welding procedure.
  • Verify documentation of procedure qualification test results
  • Document results of inspections
  • Ensure requalification requirements are maintained
  • Must follow and enforce all safety standards.
  • Oversee project quality to ensure compliance to codes, standards, regulations, equipment specific specifications, and QMS requirements.
  • Assist in advancing quality achievement and performance improvement throughout the organization.
  • Approving incoming materials by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; rejecting and returning unacceptable materials.
  • Approving in-process production by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; communicating required adjustments to production supervisor.
  • Approving finished products by confirming specifications; conducting visual and measurement tests; returning products for re-work; confirming re-work.
  • Documents inspection results by completing reports and logs; summarizing re-work and waste; inputting data into quality database.
  • Assist in identifying and developing solutions to correct inspection deficiencies.
  • Writes inspection and material testing reports and keeps these records organized per company procedure’s and standards.
  • Makes recommendations on technical specifications as assigned.
  • Performs additional related duties as assigned.
  • Regular and reliable performance and attendance

Education and/or Experience

Required

  • Current and valid Certified Welding Inspector certification REQUIRED.
  • 3 to 5 years work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Welding experience
  • Demonstrated experience performing visual inspection and nondestructive testing of welds; AWS D1.1 or D1.5 experience preferred.
  • Ability to review and interpret structural steel plans, working drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Proficiency in the use of weld inspection tools including weld gauges, NDT equipment, and micrometers.
  • Ability to read plans and specifications, complete daily work reports.
  • Bilingual a plus
