The Pharmacy Technician Lead supports department leaders by functioning as a working lead for Pharmacy Technicians and guiding the day-to-day pharmacy technician operations. Serves as a resource or Subject Matter Expert (SME) for other pharmacy staff and ensures pharmacy technicians have the resources and training necessary to perform their jobs effectively and in compliance with applicable State Board of Pharmacy regulations.

Essential Functions

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

  • Serves as Subject Matter Expert, create/modify training documents and draft/modify department standard operating procedures (SOP) under the guidance of pharmacy management for assigned pharmacy area

  • Provides and assists training, and coordinates training schedules in collaborations with department management for assigned pharmacy area

  • Monitors daily technician workload and assists pharmacists and/or pharmacy management in organizing, directing, prioritizing and triaging workflow to meet required schedules and production requirements in assigned pharmacy areas

  • Provides actionable feedback to employees to assure departmental policies/standards are being followed, and promote effective teamwork in the workplace in consultation with Pharmacy management

  • Identifies opportunities and make recommendations to department management for improvement of workflow processes, operating systems, training programs, reference materials, and quality initiatives that enhance patient safety

  • Performs audits for compliance

  • Coaches and mentors pharmacy technicians and interns.

  • Provides input on performance of pharmacy technicians to pharmacy management for annual performance review.

  • Performs all duties of pharmacy technicians as required.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

Experience: Four (4) years of progressively responsible and directly related work experience

License/Certification: Certified Pharmacy Technician credential issued by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) AND Licensed as a Pharmacy Technician by the California Board of Pharmacy

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to work with devices, information systems, automated and technical equipment utilized in pharmacy.

  • Knowledge of computer systems and software used in functional area.

  • Knowledge of local, state and federal regulatory requirements related to areas of functional responsibility.

  • Knowledge of methods and procedures involved in proper handling and storing of pharmaceutical supplies.

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.
