Job Summary

The Certified Professional Community Teacher is licensed, certified and trained to teach in the variety of programs we offer in this department. This position sets up, teaches and evaluates curriculum, meets with families, both adults and children, establishes positive relationships between the hospital and the community through the vehicle of community education.

Essential Functions

Employees must abide by all Joint Commission Requirements including but not limited to sensitivity to cultural diversity, patient care, patient rights and ethical treatment, safety and security of physical environments, emergency management, teamwork, respect for others, participation in ongoing education and training, communication and adherence to safety and quality programs, sustaining compliance with National Patient Safety Goals, and licensure and health screenings.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the hospital's policies and procedures, including its Service Standards and its Code of Conduct.

Must perform all duties and responsibilities in accordance with the Service Standards of the Hospital(s).

  • Teaches curriculum in community classes that the hospital has established to present. These classes can be for expectant parents, new parents, grandparents, preteens and their parents and older adolescents.

  • Answers curriculum questions of class participants as well refer them to other resources including the resources of the hospital/enterprise.

  • Trains to stay current with information necessary for the accuracy of class content in keeping with standards of the hospital.

  • Prepares classroom set-up, adv., resource materials to the enhance class experience.

  • Attends meetings necessary to stay abreast of current hospital information and program information.

  • Works with the community at large to represent the hospital.

Minimum Qualifications

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities as well as possession of any required licenses or certifications is qualifying.

Education: Associates' Degree in a work-related discipline/field from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Two (2) years of progressively responsible directly related work experience

License/Certification: RN - Registered Nurse

Or

License/Certification: BLSI - Basic Life Support Instructor

Or

License/Certification: IBCLC - Lactation Consultant Certification

Or

License/Certification: Childbirth certification from one of the accredited programs such as Lamaze International, ICEA, BABES and others.

Or

License/Certification: Infant massage teaching certificate.

Or

License/Certification: Teaching certification from the Gottman Institute for the specific curriculum.

Or

License/Certifcation: Certified Passenger Safety Tech

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

These are the observable and measurable attributes and skills required to perform successfully the essential functions of the job and are generally demonstrated through qualifying experience, education, or licensure/certification.

  • Knowledge of adult learning principles.

  • Knowledge of the over-arching topic's effect on the life of a family's health.

  • Knowledge of Health English, spelling and pronunciation.

  • Ability to teach a diverse group of adult learners.

  • Ability to stay abreast of current information and objectives of our hospital and clinicians for information dissemination.

  • Ability to translate to a lay audience the position of the hospital and the resources necessary to learn a specific content.

  • Ability to inspire class members through a variety of teaching methods.

  • Ability to explain terms from the clinical to the lay language in oral as well as written communication.

  • Skill in a variety of teaching modes including lecture, auditory-visual and experiential/ role-playing techniques for effective learning across a broad spectrum of learners.

  • Skill at translating health information into lay terms.

  • Skill in communicating information in a way that will be internalized and practiced by the class attendee.

  • Skill in clear expressive language.

Pay Range

Compensation is based on the level and requirements of the role.

Salary within our ranges may also be determined by your education, experience, knowledge, skills, location, and abilities, as required by the role, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data.

Typically, new team members join at the minimum to mid salary range.

Minimum to Midpoint Range (1.0 FTE): $58,988.80 to $257,836.80
