Description

Position requires the following skill sets:

Familiarity with Louisiana geography

    • For assignment of correct region of cancer diagnosis

Background with knowledge, recognition, and application of medical terminology

  • Ability to read and interpret pathology reports and terminology.
  • Must acquire knowledge of coding, processing, scanning and uploading paper pathology reports from a variety of Louisiana facilities in various phases of conversion to electronic pathology reports (Note: there is no standardized format in pathology reporting so the screener must have the experience to recognize, locate, and interpret the key diagnostic terms.

Knowledge in data entry:

    • Word
    • Excel
    • Access (preferred, but not essential)
    • SEER*DMS – LTR’s data management system; will be taught

Letters and documents

    • Grammar
    • Formatting
    • Accuracy

Familiarity with document quality control

    • Accurate entry of pathology report data into the registry database management system (SEER*DMS);
    • Attention to detail
    • Good observational skills
    • Ability to edit and recognize data error & omission

o Problem solver

Qualifications

Must be enrolled as a part-time student in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

Preferable a student from LSUHSC School of Public Health
