INTRODUCTION

The Nurse Administrator of the LSU Dental School Outpatient Surgery Center plays a critical role in overseeing the clinical and administrative operations of the facility. This position requires a combination of strong nursing expertise, leadership skills, and a deep understanding of healthcare regulations and protocols. The Nurse Administrator is responsible for ensuring the highest quality of patient care, maintaining efficient operations, and fostering a positive work environment for the healthcare team. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Clinical Oversight: 

  • Ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality patient care in accordance with established clinical standards and protocols.
  • Collaborate with the medical director, surgeons, anesthesiologists, and nursing staff to ensure seamless coordination of patient care throughout the perioperative process.
  • Monitor and evaluate patient outcomes, implementing quality improvement initiatives as needed.

Staff Management and Development: 

  • Work with management to recruit, hire, and train nursing staff, ensuring proper orientation and ongoing education to maintain competence.
  • Provide leadership and guidance to the nursing team, fostering a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide feedback, and address any disciplinary issues in coordination with HR.

Administrative Operations: 

  • Work with management to develop and implement policies and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements, accreditation standards, and best practices in outpatient surgery centers.
  • Oversee patient scheduling, preoperative assessment, and postoperative follow-up processes to ensure efficient patient flow and high patient satisfaction.
  • Manage inventory, equipment maintenance, and supply ordering to ensure the availability of necessary resources.

Compliance and Safety: 

  • Work with management to ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, including HIPAA, OSHA, and other federal and state guidelines.
  • Collaborate with infection control and safety committees to maintain a safe and sterile environment for patients and staff.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and changes in healthcare regulations, adjusting practices as needed.

Financial Management: 

  • Collaborate with management to create and manage the surgery center's budget, controlling costs while optimizing patient care.

Communication and Collaboration: 

Facilitate effective communication among all members of the healthcare team, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, nurses, and administrative staff.

Collaborate with other departments and external stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of services and continuity of care.

Requirements

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree (BSN) in nursing. 
  • Prior nursing leadership experience, preferably in an outpatient surgery center or similar healthcare setting.
