General Summary

The Simulation Technician II is responsible for the diagnostics or functional testing, troubleshooting, disassembly, modification, overhaul, repair, assembly, manufacture, calibration and testing of Simulation Training Device systems and components in accordance with contractual specifications, standards and instruction. The Simulation Technician II may act as a mentor to other technicians in the performance of their duties.

Essential Job Functions

  • Serves as Simulation Technician in the technical support of manufacturing, testing, installation, and troubleshooting Simulation Training Devices and their electrical and mechanical components.
  • Operates, maintains, and troubleshoots complex systems and components. Documents and reports system failure information for installed systems. Analyzes system failures to root cause in order to eliminate future failures.
  • May perform firmware loading, diagnostics, and testing of COTS and custom training device simulation electrical and mechanical components and assemblies using appropriate software tools as necessary as required by contract.
  • When assigned, acts as Testing Coordinator for Contractor Preliminary Inspection (CPI), Government Preliminary Inspection (GPI), etc. for Training Devices.
  • May be required to travel to on-site activities to perform maintenance, troubleshooting, delivery and installation, of training devices, or incorporate modifications to existing training devices.
  • Understands and applies technical data, CAD drawings, engineering change notices and equipment specifications.
  • Provides design analysis support to include technical data packages, maintenance manuals, instructor utilization handbooks, testing documentation, etc.
  • Works closely with Work Leads, Engineering, and Project Management in arriving at the most economical solution to complex repair, modification, testing, and calibration problems.
  • Provides support in the design, integration and testing of special effect components.
  • May act as mentor to one or more technicians in the performance of their duties.
  • Assists other trades within LSI, Inc. as directed.
  • Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
  • Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • When specific direction is not called out in applicable directives or drawings, must be able to apply trade knowledge to determine appropriate steps to take in the electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical troubleshooting and analysis process, as defined by the contract.
  • Requires knowledge of probable effects of various issues encountered during the development and modification to training systems. Must be able to recommend solutions to all aspects of electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical issues and have the ability to take corrective action to troubleshoot and correct as necessary.
  • Must be familiar with both COTS and/or custom simulation electrical and mechanical components and assemblies used on Simulation Training Devices, as defined by the contract.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.

Education and Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • Experience with electro-mechanical systems related to the training device being supported.
  • Five (5) years related experience with the system or training device being supported.
