General Summary
The Editor I read, reviews, and marks-up technical publications and/or courseware lessons for accuracy and quality.
Essential Job Functions
  • Read technical publications/courseware for accuracy and writing standards.
  • Ensure consistency throughout the technical publications/courseware in review.
  • Review grammar, word usage, capitalization, word breaks, tone, and format.
  • Review Interactive Courseware for functionality.
  • Edit technical publications/courseware using standard proofreading mark-up symbols.
  • Return marked-up proof with corrections to the developer of the technical publication/courseware.
  • May assist the Project Manager with review of customer/government comments for adjudication.
  • May assist with authoring standards, guidelines, and other helpful training materials for Technical Manual Developers or Subject Matter Experts.
  • Must be capable of safely handling government-furnished equipment and materials.
  • Must be available to work a standard weekly schedule with overtime as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Must be able to work independently.
  • Must possess strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with others.
  • Must interact collaboratively with Project Managers, Instructional Designers, Technical Manual Developers and/or Subject Matter Experts and Data Management Specialists.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent proofreading skills.
  • Must have knowledge of the different style manuals, standards, and guides of technical writing.
  • Must be able to use some or all of the following technologies: Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Access, and Internet Explorer.
  • Must be capable of learning and adapting to various software programs as needed to best complete project. Software options may include commercial off-the-self or proprietary Company products such as Broadvision Quicksilver, Arbortext, Adobe Acrobat, etc.
  • Must be capable of operating standard office equipment, such as personal computers, telephones, printers, copiers, scanners, and facsimile machines.
  • Must be able to obtain a security clearance when required by the contract.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Business Writing, Technical Writing, English or other related field, or Associate degree plus two (2) years of editing experience, or High school diploma or equivalent, plus four (4) years of editing experience.
  • One (1) year of editing experience.
  • Must be able to obtain QA Professional certification within 12 months of employment.
