Employment Type: Full time Shift: 12 Hour Night Shift

Description:

ASK ABOUT OUR GENEROUS SIGN ON BONUS

Performs day-to-day Respiratory Care, including bronchial hygiene procedures, oxygen initiation and follow up, and care of the Emergency Room patients in need of Respiratory Services. Sets up and performs complex respiratory care procedures such as continuous artificial ventilation and administration or medications. Records patient data to include ventilatory volumes, pressure/flows, and blood gas analysis.

Performs basic pulmonary function testing. Performs oxygen prescription studies and EKGs. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, psychosocial, educational, safety, and related criteria appropriate to the age of the patient population served. Sets up and maintains oxygen therapy, non-invasive monitors, diagnostic and ventilator devices while they are in use. Performs all bronchial hygiene procedures per department protocols. Charts therapy and routine checks performed on patient medical charts/electronic medical record. Performs ABG sampling and analysis, and reports results to ordering physician. Communicates relevant information regarding respiratory care services to physicians and nurses. Gives shift reports to oncoming therapist following established policy and procedures. Consistently displays appropriate customer relations behavior as dictated by the Customer Service Program. Performs CPR in emergency situations.

Practices safe and effective use of equipment. Provides routine and advance troubleshooting procedures to blood gas analyzers and life support systems. Disassembles and prepares assigned respiratory therapy equipment for sterilization. Follows hospital-wide and departmental infection control policies and recommendations from the Department of Infection Control. Follows hospital-wide and departmental safety policies and recommendations from the Safety Committee.

Attends department staff meetings and educational in-services. Participates in quality improvement activities and follows recommendations made by teams, etc.

Position Requirements:

Minimum Education:

Required: Associates Degree OR equivalent training acquired via work experience or education

Preferred: Bachelors Degree

Residency: N/A

Minimum Experience:

Required: 1-2 years of previous job-related experience

Preferred: 3-5 years of previous job-related experience

Licensure/Certifications:

Required:

Certified Respiratory Therapist (CRT)

CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)

Current Respiratory Care License State of Illinois

Preferred:

ACLS (Advanced Cardio Life Support Certified)

Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) Recognition

PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support)

Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
