Job Description:

Loyola Blakefield’s Classical Language Department is searching for a caring, dedicated professional to be an integral part of a small but enthusiastic department. Loyola Blakefield offers a full complement of college preparatory and honors Latin courses as well as three levels of honors ancient Greek. The ideal candidate would be both willing and able to teach Latin in the high school at any level (up to and including AP Latin) and possibly ancient Greek. Interest in facilitating our chapter of the National Junior Classical League will also be looked on favorably as will a willingness to travel with students to Italy or Greece. We are seeking a candidate with openness to, if not experience of, a variety of pedagogical approaches. Given the variety of students’ needs and learning styles, the teacher will need to work collaboratively and creatively to support students. We currently use the Cambridge Latin Course for our college prep courses and Wheelock’s Latin for honors courses. Our advanced Greek students are reading passages from the New Testament.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Teach a full course load; 5 classes and emergency proctoring
• Participate in co-curricular, service and retreat opportunities with students
• Collaborate and communicate effectively with students, parents, colleagues and administrators
• Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in the Classics, Latin, or related field and three years of successful teaching experience at the middle school or high school level.
• Three years of successful teaching experience at the middle school or high school level.
• A clear understanding of and commitment to Loyola Blakefield’s mission of graduating young men who are Religious, Loving, Academically Competent, Open to Growth, Committed to Diversity, and Committed to Working for a Just World.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft TEAMS and OneNote
• Positive, creative, solution-oriented temperament
