    Loyola Academy seeks to fill the position of Learning Specialist for our 2024-2025 Academic Year. Loyola Academy is a Jesuit, Catholic college preparatory school committed to forming women and men for others in service to the Church and the world.     QUALIFICATIONS
    • 3-5 years of demonstrated experience as a teacher leader and experience supporting students with learning disabilities
    • Experience as a collaborator on teams with other teachers
    • Experience reading and interpreting neuropsychology evaluations, 504, and IEP plans
    • Learning Specialist or equivalent certificate/license preferred
    • Masters Degree preferred
    • Organization and high attention to detail is essential
    • Strong and effective communication skills are essential
    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
    • Serves as Learning Specialist/Magis Resource Teacher and reports to the Associate Principal for Student Success.
    • Serves on the Tier 2 & 3 Counseling Team
    • Instructs and supports students individually and in small groups within the Magis Resource Program to build executive functioning and learning skills.
    • Serves as the primary contact for families seeking accommodations:
      • Reading, interpreting, assessing, and communicating the results of psycho-educational diagnosis to school personnel and parents through conferences and written reports
      • Assess the psycho-educational testing submitted to Loyola for incoming and current students to determine the academic support Loyola Academy can provide the student.
      • Create Academic Achievement Plans for all students who receive academic accommodations at Loyola Academy.
      • Conduct annual meetings to review the academic progress of all students who receive academic accommodations and make changes to plans as needed.
      • Communicate students’ Academic Achievement Plans and approved accommodations with appropriate faculty and identify how their learning differences manifest in the classroom.
    • Review the need to offer additional accommodations at Loyola Academy
    • Oversee the requests, submit applications and appeals for accommodations to ACT and College Board for students who receive academic accommodations at Loyola Academy
    • Collaborates with school counseling and O’Shaughnessy Resource Teachers in order to best serve the needs of students.
    • Contributes as a member of the Student Success Team
    MAGIS RESOURCE PROGRAM
    The Magis Program is an intensive, short-term intervention for students in academic crisis. Its goal is to help students acquire the organizational and academic skills needed to be successful as independent learners. “Magis” is a Latin word for more, and it reflects the philosophy of this program, which is to give students more structure, more supervision, and more support. The Magis program aims to assist students in academic crisis to acquire the organizational and study skills needed to become an independent learner in a college prep school. Loyola Academy expects the parents of Magis students to partner with the school in supporting those interventions recommended by classroom teachers, the Magis resource teacher, and school administrators.
