Lowcountry Preparatory School is Hiring a Middle School English Teacher Near Pawleys Island, SC

Lowcountry Preparatory School is an independent school that fosters the ideal learning environment by cultivating meaningful connections, providing enriching experiences and prioritizing a secure and supportive school culture. Each student is engaged through our broad array of programs as we prepare students to be confident leaders, critical thinkers, and responsible decision makers. We have approximately 200 students from kindergarten through 12th grade and are located on the beautiful Hammock Coast in Pawleys Island, South Carolina.

We are seeking a full-time Middle School English Teacher to join our teaching faculty starting in August 2024. This position will be exempt and report directly to the Head of School.

Job Summary: The Middle School English Teacher at Lowcountry Preparatory School is responsible for implementing a comprehensive and connected instructional program including course work in 6th Grade English, 7th Grade English, and 8th Grade English. This role is pivotal in creating a positive and effective learning environment that aligns with the school’s philosophy and goals.

Essential Duties:

· Classroom Instruction:

o Create an engaging classroom environment that fosters a love for learning.

· Lesson Planning and Preparation:

o Prepare lesson plans and curriculum materials in advance, incorporating a variety of instructional techniques to support student learning.

o Set clear learning objectives for each lesson and guide the learning process towards the achievement of curriculum goals that are in line with the math program.

· Classroom Management

o Expect students to maintain high standards of classroom decorum and behavior.

o Foster a positive and respectful classroom atmosphere conducive to learning.

· Assessment and Reporting

o Evaluate students through a broad range of assessments.

o Communicate effectively with parents about student progress.

· Professional Development

o Continuously strive to enhance professional competence by staying updated on educational best practices.

· Collaboration

o Attend staff meetings and actively participate in school committees or activities as required.

Qualifications:

· Passion for working with high school-aged students

· Ability and desire to work collaboratively

· Flexibility and a good sense of humor

· Bachelor’s degree in English or a related field

· U.S. citizenship or legal authorization to work in the United States

Preferences:

· Understanding of independent schools preferred

· Prior high school teaching experience, preferably in the AP and honors level (AP training will be provided, if needed)

Salary: Commensurate with teaching experience and educational qualifications
