A Day in the Life as a Travel Phlebotomist
Responsibilities:
Using technical equipment to safely draw blood from patients
Explaining the process of drawing blood clearly to a patient
Reassuring and calming patients who might be nervous or scared of the procedure
Applying dressings to the wound created by drawing blood
Registering the blood and storing it in the correct environment
Sending blood samples to testing laboratories
Keeping track of blood samples and results that are returned after testing
Updating patient records
Maintaining an organized and clean work area based on health and safety regulations and the guidelines of the medical institution
Answering patient questions regarding collection techniques and offering additional resources on the collection process, if the patient requests them
What Are We Looking For?
The Travel Phlebotomist, also known as a phlebotomy technician, is responsible for drawing blood from patients for donations, tests, and other sample work. The phlebotomy technician will puncture the vein to draw blood from patients from all walks of life, from babies and children to adults and the elderly.
Experience:
Must hold certification in the state of practice
Prior work experience in a direct patient care setting or in a long term care facility preferred
Must be in good physical health to be able to lift and move patients, and to be able to walk or stand for long periods of time
Must be compassionate and personable
Ability to handle emotional and stressful situations in a professional manner while remaining calm
Education: High school diploma or GED preferred.
Interpersonal Skills: Excellent people, time management, confidentiality and Courtesy skills are a key asset for this position.
