General Summary: The Clinical Laboratory Technician efficiently performs and results medical laboratory analysis of specimens collected in compliance with laboratory procedures. Accurately and safely performs phlebotomy procedures in a timely manner within scope of practice or as directed by physician/nurse practitioner. Provides appropriate patient care and recognizes patient’s conditions for successful completion of the procedure. Performs venipunctures competently and expediently by identifying the best method for retrieving specimens, collecting drug screens, performing audiograms and routine/ STAT Electrocardiogram (EKG), and preparing specimens for laboratory testing, has thorough knowledge of test requirements and test being performed, and assist in Clinical Laboratory as needed. Provides patient care/service for all stages of the life span including pediatrics, adolescents, adults, and geriatrics.

Essential Functions:

Ø Exhibit and promote a professional image of laboratory in accordance with hospital, department, and professional society philosophies, goals, and standards of laboratory testing.

Ø Each employee is evaluated, and records are maintained on competency of performing their duties including the specific job, effective and safe use of equipment, prevention of contamination and transfer of infection.

Ø Follow proper patient safety and patient identification procedures under any circumstances or environment.

Ø Demonstrate job competency to include safety, infection control, effective and safe use of equipment, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and other lifesaving interventions when applicable.

Ø Assist in the collection and transport of patient samples from patient rooms to the various laboratory sections.

Ø Maintains a safe, clean, and secure work environment and is prepared for emergency conditions; including but not limited to moping, sweeping, and whipping down machines and all work areas.

Ø Always provide correct and complete patient sample identification from sample delivery to reporting analysis results.

Ø Labels and records all test tubes, logs procedures, files paperwork according to filing system set forth by lab manager.

Ø Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces likelihood of medical/health care errors.

Knowledgeable of the order of draw and which color tube to use.

Ø Knowledgeable to the volume of blood needed for each testing requirement and where to find it.

Ø Always maintains patient confidentiality and understands Health Insurance Portability and Accountability (HIPPA).

Required Qualifications:

Ø High school diploma or equivalent.

Ø Phlebotomy certification.

Ø Minimum of wo (2) years working in a Lab under supervision of a Medical Licensed Technician/Medical Technician (MLT/MT).

Ø Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Certification.

Ø Experience in a Clinical Laboratory Setting.

Obtain LXMO (x-ray premit) within the first 6 months of employment

Physical Requirements:

Ø Routinely able to lift forty (40) pounds.

Ø Walk and sand majority of the day.

Ø Comfortable with computers, word, excel.

Ø Strong written and verbal communication skills.
