Job Description:
The Veterinary Technician 1 in Client Services will provide support to the Veterinary Teaching Hospital, Small Animal front desk services and operations and will interact daily with clients, referring veterinarians, faculty, house officers, staff, and students. It is essential that this person has experience with client reception and business management practices in animal healthcare or a related field. This position is an after hours/emergency shift. It is important the incumbent has prior triaging experience and excellent communication skills.
  • 60% Communicates with clients (internal and external) with a superior level of customer service. Maintain patient demographic information by obtaining, recording, and updating personal and financial information. Answers calls (within two-three rings) from clients and appropriately triage calls as needed while using proper phone etiquette and speaking in a professional manner. Retrieves client's contact information to include full name, contact information, address, and e-mail and inputting this information into the hospital's electronic medical record. Communicate with clinicians, technicians, and students about arrival time, status of patient, and other pertinent information. Verify client demographics are correct upon arrival. Triage patient upon arrival to ensure timely access to quality medical care. Communicate with clients to complete a brief clinical assessment that determines the clinical urgency of the patient's presenting problem. Ensures continuous reassessment and management of patients who remain in the waiting room commensurate with their condition and informs clients of wait times. Immediately intervenes in cases where patient presents imminent death without medical treatment.
  • 25% Assists technicians with upkeep and input of charges for patients within the hospital; posting, collecting, and billing; communication with clients; collectionsreviews receivables when checking clients in and ensuring late balances are collected prior to service. Verify appropriate documents are signed and deposits are collected upon intaking the patient and bill is paid prior to patient leaving.
  • 10% Assist in inputting and verifying LADDL charges.
  • 5% other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree OR Associate's degree in veterinary technology OR CVT or equivalent OR 3 years of experience in a working environment with similar duties
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree with two years of customer service experience OR Associate's degree in Vet Technology with 2 years of administrative experience related to the duties of the job OR certification as a vet tech or equivalent (Licensed, registered, etc.) with 2 years of administrative experience related to the duties of the job.
Special or Physical Qualifications:
Per PS 18- This position is a part of the Emergency Response Personnel - these personnel are linked with the hospital during any emergency response event and are expected to report in and perform as outlined in the emergency response plan.
Required to be capable of lifting more than 50 pounds, standing or walking for prolonged periods, able to reach above and below the shoulder, vision (near sight), vision (far sight), kneel or sit on the floor, push/pulling, grasping, climbing, crawling bending, squatting, and/or twisting.

Cash Handling - This position has access to/directly handles cash. Financial history/credit check required per FASOP HR-04.
Position is subject to an office environment and must be able to operate a computer, telephone and other office machinery, remain seated for extended periods of time, bend, squat, twist, move about to accomplish tasks, ability to receive and exchange detailed information through oral and written communication, make substantial movements of the wrists, hands, or fingers.
