Job Description:
The School of Art at Louisiana State University seeks applicants for an Assistant Professor of Studio Art in the Graphic Design area to begin August 1, 2024. This is a full-time, tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor rank. We are seeking an accomplished professional with specialization and expertise in UI/UX design, interaction design and other emerging technologies.
Candidates are expected to teach and engage in scholarly research and service to the School, College, and University. Teaching assignments are a 3:2 course load, and include studios, lecture courses, and seminars at the undergraduate and graduate level for students in BA, BFA and MFA programs. Additional responsibilities include student advising and mentoring for the graphic design program. Candidates should value interdisciplinary collaboration and have the ability to contribute to multiple levels of the curricula within the School of Art.
The successful applicant will have a strong commitment to teaching, an active creative practice, the capacity to contribute to an innovative undergraduate design curriculum, and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion that would further existing initiatives in both the Art Department and the University. We are looking for someone to serve not only the specific needs of the graphic design area but those of allied disciplines in art and to complement the expertise of the other members of the department.

The School of Art has 500 students and is one of 4 units in the College of Art & Design which includes Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Interior Design. The School of Art combines the best of both worlds: the resources and faculty of a large liberal arts institution with the personal attention that comes in a close-knit community. The LSU School of Art's graphic design concentration is among the largest and most comprehensive in the region. Our faculty, together with several practicing professionals are dedicated to
exceptional teaching and offer instruction at the intermediate and advanced levels, prepare students to become visual communicators, critical thinkers, and creative problem solvers.
The School of Art offers a Bachelor of Arts in Art and Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts, Master of Arts in Art History, and Master of Fine Arts programs. BFA Studio Art concentrations include digital art, graphic design, and studio arts, with tracks in ceramics, printmaking, sculpture, painting and drawing, photography.

Job Responsibilities
TEACHING (50%): Teach relevant courses for the School of Art in undergraduate and/or graduate programs.
RESEARCH (35%): Research and scholarly activity.
SERVICE (15%): Other contributions to the department, the university, the academic profession, or the broader community that support the primary missions of scholarship and teaching.
Minimum Qualifications
MFA in Graphic Design, Interaction Design, Communication Design, Visual Communication Design or closely related discipline. 3 years teaching experience at the university level, which may include experience as an instructor of record.
Preferred Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have three or more years of creative practice within the discipline of graphic design, which may include experience gained while pursuing graduate studies. In addition, the ideal candidate will have teaching experience and research interests in one or more of the following areas: UI/UX design, interaction design, digital/physical experience design, motion graphics, illustration, human-centered design, design for social impact, programming/generative design or other emerging technologies.
Candidates with professional experience in communication and marketing strategy, design/user research methods, and service-learning are encouraged to apply.
