Title : Citizenship and ESL Instructor / Coordinator

Position Hours / Location : This position is Part-time and In-person.

Compensation : $18hr

LORI is in search of a qualified individual to coordinate and teach citizenship, civics, and English language education to immigrants in our community.

The ideal candidate for the Citizenship Instructor / Coordinator position should be able to provide well-structured classes to Adult English Learners who are legal permanent residents and may be eligible to apply for naturalization.

Responsibilities of the Citizenship Instructor include :

• Providing integrated civics and ESL instruction to students at a high beginner to intermediate English level through a student-centered teaching approach
• Planning and implementing lesson plans that align with the program curriculum and incorporate the provided educational materials, including the adopted textbook and USCIS Citizenship study materials
• Delivering citizenship content that incorporates the required reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills for the citizenship test, as well as English vocabulary and grammar skill development
• Offering one-on-one or small group support to teachers who require additional assistance in language or technology development
• Staying updated on the latest ESL teaching methodologies, trends, and research to continually improve teaching skills
• Maintaining and following up accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and progress for grant proposals and grant reporting
• Maintaining consistent communication with the legal department and program managers, and outreach coordinator to provide and share relevant programmatic details, such as assessment, enrollment, and expansion information
• Performing other related work as assigned
• Updating ESL and Citizenship flyers on a regular basis or for specific events

Qualifications :

• Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred
• At least one-year prior ESL or Citizenship teaching experience would be preferred.
• Cultural sensitivity and the ability to work with diverse student populations
• Proficiency in the use of educational technology and digital resources
• Bilingual (English-Spanish) candidates are highly preferred. Proficiency in Arabic, Haitian-Creole, Burmese, or other languages is valued.
• Ability to react to change productively and handle other essential tasks as assigned
• Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, including maintaining effective work relationships
• Strong organizational skills and ability to work across all levels of management and staff
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all case and client information
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office / Google doc Suite is required
• Ability to work some evenings
• Have reliable transportation
• New employees will be required to complete a criminal background check prior to employment.
