Loudoun County Public Schools is Hiring a School Nutrition Manager Trainer (SY 2022-2023) (EOY) Near Ashburn, VA

Position Overview

Inspiring new staff to develop exceptional skills to carry out the mission and vision of School Nutrition programs is the purpose of the position. 

Roles and Responsibilities

Responsibilities include training of new hires, in addition to staff supervision and coordination of meal service activities at assigned location to ensure nutritious meals are provided which prepare students for academic success. The training manager position is a one year assignment. 

The training manager has overall management responsibility for food service operations at one school, and supervises regular staff of 4-8 members. The training manager regularly supervises new hires throughout the year, providing basic skills training in food service operations that include, but are not limited to, following standardized recipes, weights, measures, and portion tools; meal patterns for breakfast and lunch; offer versus serve; food safety; cashiering; customer service; and work simplification techniques. Attends and participates in manager-in-training classes and back-to-school workshops. Completion of Principles of Adult Learning course from the Institute of Child Nutrition, as well as Level 2 School Nutrition Association certificate, are required prior to assuming the position.

Qualifications 

  • Graduation from high school with a minimum of 3 years of quantity food service experience, or any equivalent combination of education and experience that would provide the following knowledge, abilities, and skills. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in LCPS School Nutrition Services is required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of adult learning principles
  • Demonstrated ability in training staff who are prepared to assume school nutrition worker duties in various schools with basic skills in following standardized recipes, setting up service lines, exemplary customer service, communicating with customers, building staff and community members, cashiering, and clean up
  • Ability to effectively supervise staff with diverse backgrounds
  • Demonstrated ability to build and sustain a high performing team
  • Must demonstrate excellent customer relations skills
  • Working knowledge of quantity food preparation methods and practices
  • Knowledge of HACCP food safety procedures and practices-must possess current Serve-Safe certification
  • Ability to maintain highest level of confidentiality concerning student records
  • Demonstrates understanding of finance, and manages a financially solvent unit meeting established key performance indicators
  • In depth working knowledge of USDA regulations governing programs
  • Initiates and conducts promotions and marketing activities that engage students and help build participation. Engages classroom teachers and students in marketing activities
  • Working knowledge of School Nutrition technology
  • Attends monthly manager leadership meetings, as well as job-related training classes and workshops, as directed by the Director of School Nutrition Services
  • Participates in all manager-in-training classes and back-to-school workshops
  • Must obtain annual continuing education hours for the position, as required by federal law
