Job Overview

The McKinney-Vento office coordinates services to ensure students experiencing homelessness are immediately enrolled in and fully participating in school. The employee provides assistance in reviewing applications and determining eligibility of students for services under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.

Roles and Responsibilities

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position. This is not a comprehensive listing of all responsibilities or tasks; other work may be assigned when deemed appropriate:

• Understands the intricacies of determining eligibility of students under the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act.
• Reviews applications for McKinney-Vento services.
• Makes eligibility determinations with parents/guardians/unaccompanied youth under the guidance of the McKinney-Vento Specialist.
• Ensures that the parents/guardians of homeless children are informed of their rights and of the opportunities available to them in Loudoun County Public Schools.
• Responds to questions regarding eligibility for services.
• Ensures all appropriate documentation is properly maintained.

Qualifications

Below are the qualifications for this position:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish required
• High School diploma or GED required
• Possesses strong oral and written communications skills and effective interpersonal skills to work with parents as well as school and community agency personnel
• Communicates a genuine desire to assist students, parents and schools
• Demonstrates ability to use Phoenix, Microsoft Word, Excel.
• Demonstrates strong organizational skills
• Understanding and knowledge of McKinney-Vento services preferred.
