Position: Assistant Nurse Manager (RN)

Program: Nursing

Department: Health Services

Reports to: Nurse Manager

Compensation: $118,141 Annually

Status: 100%, Full-Time, Exempt, Regular

Probation: 180 days

DEPARTMENT SUMMARY: As the nation’s largest and most experienced provider of LGBT medical and mental health services, we help LGBTQ people lead healthier, happier lives, by keeping their minds and body well. All services are free or low cost. We’re also one of the few Federally Qualified Health Centers in the nation with providers who specialize in primary care for LGBTQ people and with a research team working to advance the care and treatment of people in our community.

JOB SUMMARY: Under the supervision of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager (RN) will be responsible for supervision of the Nursing Coordinators (RNs), supervision of the LVN Care Coordinators, and the maintenance of quality patient care in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations and accreditation standards. In the absence of the Nurse Manager, the Assistant Nurse Manager together with the Clinical Nursing Management Team is responsible for directing and supervising all clinical nursing and laboratory services. This includes interpreting policies and procedures, standards and regulations, and adjusting staff for adequate coverage.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

•Provide overall direction and guidance for direct reports in Health Services (HS).

•Work closely with Nurse Manager, Director of Nursing, Chief Medical Officer, Medical Providers, and other HS Managers to ensure that nursing program and laboratory meet patient care and regulatory requirements.

•Help to oversee and control supplies that directly impact patient care (e.g., ordering and charging of stock medications, medical supplies, and patient care equipment and/or supplies).

•Assist and support in all human resources functions for direct reports, maintaining systems to provide regular feedback and evaluation for staff.

•Maintain appropriate documentation and ensure compliance with all Los Angeles LGBT Center (Center) policies and requirements.

•Ensure that staffing levels and coverage are adequate to meet patient care and regulatory requirements.

•Work closely with supervisors and other HS Managers to maintain positive patient care atmosphere in clinic.

•Develop and implement staff training and development programs to meet continuing education and contractual requirements, and to further the knowledge of medical care and working in a team environment.

•Provide Quality Management direction and oversight for direct reports in all HS divisions and other Center areas as appropriate.

•Actively participate in Quality Risk Management Committee (QRMC) and ensure that regular monitors are conducted and reported.

•Lead and/or participate in various special project teams to address areas of concern.

•Assure that direct reports and clinical nursing staff practice within their individual scopes of practice.

•Participate in Nursing Unit Level Policy and Procedure (P&P) Committee maintaining current P&P, and ensure that P&P comply with all regulatory and contract requirements.

•Participates in or conducts regular meetings with staff to ensure full understanding and buy-in for all P&P.

•Participates in all program, licensure, and other external audits, and in the preparation of Plans of Corrective Action (POCA).

•Participates in Center and HS meetings as required.

•Other duties as assigned.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

•Knowledge of or experience working with the LGBTQ community and familiarity with issues of particular relevance to LGBTQ people.

•A passion for the Center’s work and its mission to make the world a better place for LGBTQ people.

•Current California Registered Nurse license required.

•Current AHA CPR certification.

•Minimum of three years of experience in direct patient care, preferably in an ambulatory care setting.

•Minimum of three years of increasing responsibility nursing management, experience preferably in out-patient setting.

•Experience in HIV/AIDS care a plus.

•Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) a plus.

•AIDS Care Registered Nurse (ACRN) Certification a plus.

•Knowledge of infectious diseases, e.g., HIV/AIDS, STI’s, and state/ federal reporting requirements.

•Basic knowledge of care coordination and navigation throughout the managed care process i.e., prior authorization, specialty care coordination, patient assistance program.

•Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong organizational, detail, and interpersonal skills.

•Excellent Computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft Office, word processing, Electronic Health Records, and other software systems.

•Ability to be self-motivated and dedicated to initiating and completing complex tasks.

•Ability to handle multiple tasks, be detailed oriented, and maintain strict confidentiality of medical information.

•Able to work well independently with minimum supervision.

•Bilingual skills, a plus (English/Spanish fluency preferred).

•Demonstrated ability to work effectively with people of diverse races, ethnicities, nationalities, sexual orientations, gender identities, gender expression, socio-economic backgrounds, religions, ages, English-speaking abilities, immigration status, and physical abilities in a multicultural environment.
