Los Angeles City College (LACC) Office of Economic Development and Workforce Education is inviting applications for the 1.0 FTE Strong Workforce Regional Gaming/eSports Program Coordinator position. This is Grant Funded SFP, Instructor Special Assignment (ISA) position until June 30, 2024.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Dean of Economic Development and Workforce Education, the faculty member will be responsible for the coordination of the Game Art Design and eSports Program and other duties as assigned.

  • Provides academic Oversight, implementation of strategic planning and leadership initiatives in support and development of the curriculum of the Game Art Design and eSports program. Specifically, lead curriculum development and, in collaboration with Dean of Curriculum, shepherd and assure course development approval through the curriculum process and implementation through district and state.
  • Provides leadership when planning courses of study that drives the instructional Game Art Design and eSports program during the implementation of Dual Enrollment program and Apprenticeship programs. Work with supervising dean to strategically do examination, selection, in-service training, mentoring, and/or assignment of all personnel involved in the instructional program. Work in development, monitoring, and evaluation of possible non-credit to credit instructional programs.
  • Monitor and assure apprenticeship program and site compliance with state and federal regulations, college policies, apprenticeship requirements, and specific industry licensure and certificate requirements. Ensure that the academic guidelines are integrated into the apprenticeship program. Work with evaluator to develop and direct research connected with the evaluation or efficiency of the different instructional programs. Guide the process on how to present data, evaluation findings and recommendations.
  • Liaison with community workforce partners such as professional businesses, industry partners, and community organizations to build, maintain, and develop strategic partnerships and ensure instructional program currency. Furthermore, ensure that curriculum is developed in direct response to workforce partners’ needs.
  • Provide leadership for academic Development by analyzing various data sets to guide academic programs and course scheduling with the goal of Game Art Design and eSports program.
  • Provides faculty and staff development by examining, selecting, and coordinating in-service training for personnel involved in the instructional program; Develop and implement professional development plans for faculty instructors, such as mentoring. Collaborate with Academic Senate and the Professional development faculty coordinator for development and implementation.
  • Draft and submit regular reports to granting agencies as required and to the College as requested. Document grant activities and respond to audit requests as needed.
  • Collaborate with key personnel and faculty at each contract partner (institution of higher education), workforce agency, industry association, and workforce intermediary to ensure all partners are meeting their contractual obligations and meet the requisite CFR and award requirements.
  • Attend and conduct a variety of faculty and division meetings, conferences and workshops representing Los Angeles City College Game Art Design and eSports Program. Attend conferences and participate in online training activities and represent the project at state and local apprenticeship, Game Art Design and eSports program, and sub-clusters meetings.
  • Actively participate in regional trade site, academic and union events, work groups, activities and other meetings that inform the development and implementation of instructional programs, where appropriate.
  • Provide leadership in Developing and establishing an eSports competition program.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

REQUIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Meets minimum qualifications for faculty teaching any LACCD discipline.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socio-economic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must demonstrate knowledge and experience with creating and expanding Game Art Design, and eSports programs.
  • Experience in the Game Art Design production pipeline.
  • Experience with apprenticeship, internship, and job placement in the Game Art Design industry.
  • Knowledge of gaming competitions not limited to eSports.
  • Knowledge of educational and career pathways for Game Art Design programs.
  • Experience developing outreach strategies.
  • Knowledge of career and technical education programs in the entertainment industries.
  • Experience in preparing reports to both federal and state agencies.
  • Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, staff and faculty.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience in working with a population (faculty, staff, students, and business/industry/community representatives) of diverse ethnic, linguistic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Strong writing and research skills with experience in report writing, leading presentations and workshops.

COMPENSATION and BENEFITS:

This is a 12-month, D-basis, 1.0 FTE limited, specially-funded faculty coordinator ISA position. Compensation continues at the current pay rate internal regular or contract faculty members. For new employees the salary range is $79,464 - $123,720 is commensurate with academic preparation and experience for new employees. The doctoral differential is $5.016 per academic year. District benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

  • A selection committee with representation from the administration, academic senate, and faculty guild will review all completed and approved applications received. The committee screening will involve an evaluation of the candidate’s qualifications in the areas of training, experience, and personal fitness as determined from the application package.
  • Selected candidates will be invited for an interview with the selection committee following the committee screening.
  • The name of a finalist will be forwarded by the selection committee to the college vice-president and president for final approval and appointment to the position.
