SUMMARY:

The Online Learning Academy is a school of choice within LAPS and is therefore a local school. Educators must be able to meet in person regularly with staff and students. Instructs students in activities designed to promote social, physical and intellectual growth in the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able and responsible men and women.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Online Math and science teacher for 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades.
•  Teacher works with students in the online learning environment for full day synchronous, explicit instruction using district adopted and online curriculums.
• Works collaboratively with the team to plan cross-curricular instruction.
•  Ability to apply knowledge of instructional programs such as Edgenuity and Saavas. 
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of teacher programs such as Go Guardian, Kami, Powerschool, Google classroom and Google Suit.
• Ability to work with mathematical concepts from 5th grade up to Algebra. 
• Ability to work with NGSS standards in Physical, Life, and Earth Science.
• Experience using the scientific and engineering method and participation in science fair.
• Prepare student materials for hands on learning in Math and Science

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Supervises virtual classrooms and students. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

• Meet monthly with students and staff for hands on and curriculum extension activities that promote social/emotional growth and well being.
• Meet students in-person for state testing.
• Ability to read and write English
• Perform mathematical calculations as required for the job
• Respond to requests and inquiries from building administrators
• Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
• Ability to secure required District and State certifications or licenses as requested

EDUCATION AND / OR EXPERIENCE:

• Four year degree in the area of major study.
• Teaching License from the New Mexico Public Education Department.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

• Ability to read, analyze and interpret job related materials to perform the required duties
• Ability to communicate logically and coherently with co-workers, staff and District personnel

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

Knowledge of New Mexico mathematical content and grade level standards. Ability to plan appropriate grade level mathematical lessons that reinforce state standards.

SCIENCE SKILLS: 

Knowledge of New Mexico grade appropriate science content and standards. Ability to plan lessons incorporating New Mexico STEM practices. 

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lessons based on division and school objectives and the needs and abilities of students to whom assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, peers and parents; skill in oral and written communication.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing duties of this job, the employee is required to complete work on a computer. This may restrict the employee to sitting for long periods of time and looking at an electronic screen for long periods of time.
