We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to fill the role of Middle School Lifetime Fitness and Yoga Instructor. This unique position blends traditional fitness education with the mindfulness and physical benefits of yoga practice. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in physical education, health, and yoga instruction, with a passion for promoting holistic well-being among middle school students. This role involves designing and implementing a comprehensive curriculum that integrates fitness exercises, yoga techniques, and mindfulness practices to foster lifelong habits of health and wellness.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver a dynamic and inclusive fitness and yoga curriculum tailored to the needs and interests of middle school students.
  • Lead engaging and interactive fitness and yoga classes that incorporate a variety of activities, including cardiovascular exercises, strength training, yoga poses, breathing exercises, and relaxation techniques.
  • Educate students on the physical, mental, and emotional benefits of regular exercise, yoga, and mindfulness practices for overall health and well-being.
  • Provide individualized instruction and support to students to help them develop strength, flexibility, balance, and body awareness through yoga and fitness activities.
  • Cultivate a supportive and non-judgmental learning environment where students feel comfortable exploring and challenging themselves physically and mentally.
  • Incorporate principles of mindfulness, self-awareness, and self-care into the curriculum to help students manage stress, improve focus, and enhance their overall quality of life.
  • Assess students' progress and participation levels, providing constructive feedback and encouragement to support their growth and development.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members, administrators, and parents to promote the importance of holistic wellness and healthy lifestyle habits within the school community.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physical education, health education, exercise science, or a related field.
  • Teacher License from the New Mexico Public Education Department.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
  • Certification or significant training in yoga instruction, with experience teaching yoga to children or adolescents.
  • Previous experience working with middle school students in a fitness, health, or education setting.
  • Strong knowledge of fitness principles, yoga philosophy, anatomy, and alignment principles.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students of diverse backgrounds and abilities.
  • Organizational skills and attention to detail to plan and deliver effective fitness and yoga lessons.
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for promoting holistic well-being and healthy lifestyles among youth.
  • CPR and first aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
  • Ability to maintain a safe and inclusive learning environment, prioritizing student safety and well-being at all times.

Working Conditions:

  • This position typically operates within a middle school gymnasium, or multipurpose space.
  • Flexible hours may be required to accommodate class schedules and extracurricular activities.
  • Some lifting and physical exertion may be involved in setting up equipment and leading fitness and yoga activities.
  • Collaboration with other faculty members, administrators, and parents may be necessary to support the overall well-being of students.
