The Registered Nurse provides age specific nursing care: to adult and geriatric patients with psychiatric disorders through the nursing process. Keeps abreast of all pertinent federal, state and Hospital regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified. Understands and adheres to Loretto Hospital’s compliance standards as they appear in the Compliance Policy, Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest Policy.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Completes thorough and accurate assessment on each assigned patient and reassessment when indicated.

1. Demonstrates full working knowledge of the nursing process and its application. Achieve 90% assessment, reassessment and accurately initiate interdisciplinary plan of care.

1. Demonstrates knowledge of medications, their pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, adverse reaction, contra indications and nursing considerations.

1. Demonstrates technical skill and accuracy when administering medications, treatments and procedures in accordance with the physician’s orders.

1. Provides individual patient and family education on illness management, and medication management.

1. Conducts rounds on assigned patients twice per shift.

1. Demonstrates competency in CPR, CPI, Restraints, medication administration, age specific assessment and care; and utilizes proper CPI and restraint methods to de-escalate and/or restrain agitated patients.

1. Attends 2 seminars/conferences to obtain CEU’s (Continuing Education Units) for licensure.

1. Follows established emergency, infection prevention and protocols.

1. Demonstrate the ability to prioritize workload efficiently and accept/respond to change in a manner that promotes and supports departmental/hospital goals and objectives.
2. Serve as a primary coordinator of all disciplines for well-coordinated patient care.
3. Assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs with members of the healthcare team.
4. Other duties as assigned.

• Ensures that the staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Graduate of accredited school of nursing. B.S.N. degree preferred
• Current Registered Nurse Licensure in the State of Illinois

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand and walk as well as occasionally stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl by using proper body mechanics, the employee may be expected to lift, pull, push or move patients and/or equipment. Fine motor skills are required when using hands and fingers to handle, feel or reach. Normal or corrected vision, hearing and the ability to speak are necessary. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, sharp eye focus and ability to distinguish colors. There will be period of stressful intense concentration with more than average pressure used in a variety of problem solving situations.
