The Interiors Engineering Supervisor will manage and execute DRE responsibilities to meet program deliverables for Interior Group to include: Instrument Panel, Center/Floor Console, Hard and Door Trim.

Role and Responsibilities

  • To manage and execute as a Product Design Release Engineer from System to component level
  • APQP process: Planning and defining program, Product design and development, Process design and development, Product and process validation, and Assessment.
  • Be able to build and lead team of Engineers and designers 
  • Create and manage parts from initial design, to prototype phase, and production
  • Define and mature EBOM (Engineering Bill of Materials), including all attributes such as material selection, finish, purchase code, serviceability, traceability, etcetera
  • Provide weekly updates of progress, goals and roadblocks
  • Apply budget constraints as part of the engineering design process
  • Work within a cross-functional team to achieve goals
  • Drive/Verify styling theme feasibility (manufacturing, ergonomic, service, safety, regulatory etc.)
  • Understand and update Engineering documentation such as TES’s (Tech. Spec’s), DFMEA’s (Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis) and DVP’s (Design Verification Plan) 
  • Able to work closely with suppliers to achieve goals
  • Vehicle and Component level CAE analysis comprehension and relaying direction
  • Track open issues via issue tracking process, drive communication and tasks to closure of issues
  • Generate timing plan for each part to alignment and meet Vehicle Program Timing Plan
  • Coordinate testing to validate design
  • Consults with colleagues and supervisor as required
  • Provides guidance to team members
  • Report and escalate major issues immediately to Manager
  • Develop targets for investment (engineering and tooling) and piece cost
  • Able to develop criteria sections for future vehicles
  • Conduct vehicle benchmark studies / technical research of competitive products, present findings and suggest recommendations
  • Assure Budget, Timing, Weight and Quality intent is achieved
  • Willingness to travel to supplier, and assembly plant during launch

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering or similar required
  • Previous experience managing DRE/Designers
  • Previous assembly plant launch experience preferred.
  • 5-7 Years Interiors Design Release Engineering experience
  • 5-7 Years Component Design/Engineering Development
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills with the following: materials (plastics: injection molded and blow molded), Hardware (handle and release cables, electronic integration, design for service), assembly processes and design for manufacturability 
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements required
  • CAD capable: 3D Part and Assembly Design, Space and Geometry analysis and 2D drawing as minimum. CATIA V5 R29 preferred
  • Proficient with PLM System application(s) required. Teamcenter preferred
  • Previous assembly plant launch experience required
  • Previous supervisor role/experience managing DREs preferred
  • Dimensional Management and Dimensional Checking experience required
  • Understanding of GD&T required
  • Experience with Design Verification Plan & Report (DVP&R) required
  • Experience with Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (DFMEA) required
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft products such as Word, Excel and others
  • Hands on and team player approach required

Preferred Skills

  • Previous OEM and Start-up automotive experience preferred.
  • Experience Benchmarking engineering technologies and applying those into the design activities as appropriate
  • Able to define design guidelines for future product
  • Good analytical skills for calculating simple structures, or perform using CAE 
  • Experience or knowledge of root cause analysis or Design of Experiment
  • Experience in developing and working Criteria Development Section (Typical Sections)
  • Experience or knowledge of forming processes such as stamping, injection moldings, casting, and extrusions
  • High level of oral and written communication skills

  • Travel required: 20% / As needed
