The Vehicle Integration Durability Test Engineer is responsible to work with the engineering and program teams in the preparation and execution of vehicle tests events. You will also be responsible for the management of our Data collection on testing. You will report directly to the VI Supervisor.

Roles and Responsibilities

  • Plan, setup and execute vehicle testing including durability, and fleet validation tests
  • Ensure test results are documented in a clear, concise, and timely manner
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise during testing
  • Extensive domestic travel to test sites and fleet drives
  • Engage in subjective evaluation to identify system failure modes
  • Drive prototype vehicles during certain tests
  • Work with internal or external instrumentation team for installation of various sensors such as accelerometers, strain gauges, pressure transducers, thermocouples, and microphones
  • Perform/support road load data acquisition (RLDA) and full vehicle durability on proving grounds
  • Work with internal and external labs, key system suppliers, alliance partner to develop the shaker profiles for various systems
  • Support with component responsible engineers to design, prepare, and execute structural testing. This includes the manufacture of new test stands and operation of existing resources. Perform all necessary design, analysis, and project management.
  • Produce professional and traceable documentation, including electrical, mechanical, and fluid schematics of the test systems

Requirements

  • BS in Engineering (BSME, BSEE, BSIE…) or equivalent experience.
  • 5 years’ experience with vehicle testing durability.
  • A strong understanding of vehicle systems, mechanical and electrical.
  • A strong understanding of vehicle testing standards.
  • Strong data analysis and reporting experience
  • A strong knowledge of automotive testing instrumentation and tools
  • Knowledge of proving grounds, different durability track events, vehicle duty cycle
  • Desirable Experienced setting up and using data acquisition systems to collect road load data, noise levels, temperature, and electrical data.
  • Working knowledge of any of the data acquisition eDAQ systems such as SOMAT, LMS SCADAS, NI DAQ, Dewesoft DAQ etc. would be a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills and team-oriented attitude
  • Prior experience with evaluation of automobiles.
  • Experience with DVP&R.
  • Problem solving mind set.
  • OEM and automotive experience preferred.
  • Experience with regulatory requirements preferred.
  • Knowledge of test equipment and instrumentation for vehicle level testing and measurement.

  • Maintains a positive mindset and a desire for continuous professional growth
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills 
  • Understanding of Project Management and “Design Thinking” methodologies (Traditional and Agile)
  • Experience utilizing the Microsoft O365, the Microsoft Power suite, Visio (or similar app), and JIRA 
  • Ability to manage multiple enterprise-level projects, collaborate with cross-functional teams, and present results
  • Maintains a mindset of continuous and sustainable improvement
  • Familiarity operating within research and software and design development environment.
  • Critical thinking and the ability to interpret/design data models. 
  • Technical writing and documenting.
