Job Title: North American EHS Field Safety Manager

FLSA Status: Exempt

Department: Environmental Health & Safety

Reports to: Director, Environmental Health & Safety

GENERAL DESCRIPTION / PURPOSE:

The North American EHS Field Safety Manager is a pivotal business partner that fosters a safe and productive working environment for the LORAM field workforce in North America to include the USA, Canada, and Mexico operations. This role leads the North American field safety team and manages the development, implementation, and reinforcement of initiatives, rules, and regulations for the mobile workforce in close partnership with field operations business units. Deliver unrivaled customer service by measuring performance, training and motivating the field safety team; and effectively partnering with internal and external customers to drive a culture of Safety Excellence in accordance with Loram values to deliver industry leading safety performance and exceptional customer satisfaction.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Strategic and Functional

  • Participates in establishing the overall business strategy as well as the field safety team’s role in achieving the strategy.
  • Lead employees to minimize risk, built on the principles of personal accountability, influencing behaviors, leading indicators and a culture of active employee engagement
  • Maintain consistent attention to external customer requests and field presence on their properties by attending, participating, and representing the field safety team at Loram and customer safety meetings.
  • Lead the development and application of the safety management system for field operations and maintain awareness of industry best practices to identify and recommend or help justify improvement opportunities.
  • Partner with operations management and key contacts on customer railroads to continuously drive improvements and establish and maintain effective business and working relationships
  • Lead the application of the Field Interaction program for the safety team and operations management to further engage and cultivate a culture of Safety Excellence.
  • Audit the performance of field personnel to ensure safety and environmental compliance to Loram and customer operating rules, safe operating procedures, and governmental regulations
  • Drive closure of open safety issues and address below standard performance by providing leadership support in resolving these by involving our internal customers where necessary
  • Approve new products and re-evaluate existing products on an as needed basis including partnering with Engineering team in Prevention Through Design (PTD) efforts of machines and equipment.

Leadership and Talent Development

  • Responsible for hiring, on-boarding, coaching, mentoring, appraising performance, and continuously assessing competence of the field safety team.
  • Regularly review performance metrics to assess productivity levels, goal achievement and identify areas needing improvement

Financial Management

  • Develop, execute, and manage the field safety budget and expenditures for the fiscal year to deliver financial results in accordance with the budget, specifically labor, travel, and improvement projects.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Bachelors degree in safety management or related field

Experience: 5 years of progressive safety management experience with a mobile workforce

Licenses/Certifications: Maintain Railroad Certifications

  • Or 9 years equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree in EHS or Business Administration

Licenses/Certifications: Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
