Lookout Towers LLC is Hiring a Tower Technician, Tower Climber Near Knoxville, TN

TITLE:
Tower Technician / Tower Climber

CLASSIFICATION:
Non-Exempt, Full-Time

HIRING RADIUS:
Must reside within a two-hour driving proximity of our office headquartered in New Tazewell, TN, where you will primarily report. Reporting location may vary depending on the location of each job site.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ensure safety standards and procedures is always being adhered to, including all fall safety procedures and 100% tie-off commitment
  • Willing to perform work at both ground locations and tower top locations
  • Work with crew members to assemble or erect new telecom structures such as Guyed Towers, Monopole Towers, Stealth Towers, and Self-Supporting Towers
  • Perform maintenance or repair work on existing structures
  • Properly rig a tower in a Class IV rigging scenario
  • Lift equipment into position, using a crane and rigging tools or equipment, such as gin poles
  • Willing to learn how to operate heavy equipment
  • Install tower lighting, tower light controllers, and safety climbing devices on tower structures
  • Fabricate steel in the field and on the tower when modifying existing towers
  • Must provide support to the foreman on tower top and other crew members
  • Read and understand customer blueprints and execute tasks associated with the scope of work
  • Complete work to customer specifications
  • Ensure quality installation before turning over the site for completion
  • Take quality pre-construction and closeout photos
  • Verify all project materials ordered are present and in good condition before accepting and unloading delivery
  • Assist in unloading project materials and telecom equipment
  • Properly stage job sites for construction readiness and understand overall site layout
  • Responsible for daily preparation and planning to ensure efficient travel to sites and quality performance of duties on sites
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment
  • Provide proper maintenance and service to Company tools, equipment, hoist, crane, trucks, trailers, and climbing gear

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • 100% travel ability
  • Must be willing to work overtime and travel out of state for up to 1-3 week at a time, including overnight stays
  • Must endure regular exposure to all weather conditions, including hot, cold, humid, windy, and rainy during all seasons throughout the year
  • Must be healthy and fit to work outdoors for extended periods
  • May be exposed to uncomfortable or distracting sounds or noise levels on site of projects
  • When required, must wear common protective safety equipment, such as safety glasses, gloves, hearing protection, hard hats, steel toe/composite toe boots, and high visible vest when working on-site
  • Ability to climb and work at heights up to 500 ft. for extended periods
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. without assistance
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, stand, kneel, squat, walk, climb, drive; use hands for grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation; reach above and below shoulder
  • Good vision for close work, distance, color discrimination, peripheral and depth perception
  • Must always be alert to equipment while working on construction sites

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • 1-2 years of previous tower climbing experience or similar type work preferred (Note: we do not require previous tower climbing experience when applying for this position)
  • Valid driver’s license and driver history that complies with company motor vehicle policy required
  • Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred but not required
  • Must be able to pass pre-employment screening that includes criminal background checks, drug testing, and motor vehicle record review
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office preferred
  • Must have or willing to obtain industry certification including but not limited to: Authorized Climber, Competent Climber, Competent Rescuer, RF Awareness, OSHA 10 & 30, and First Aid & CPR
  • Successful completion of safety in rigging coursework preferred
