Job Description Summary

The Batch Plant Operator directs day-to-day operations of batch plant. Establishes and maintains a good working relationship with management, co-workers, customers, suppliers and subcontractors to accomplish the work on time and on or under budget.

Essential Functions

· Manages the purchasing and inventory control functions.

· Provides support to production scheduling on all material flow issues to meet production schedules and customer requirements.

· Plan, direct and supervise workers in batch plant and related activities.

· Coordinate assigned work

· Applies knowledge or production methods, processes, equipment and production to ensure operating effectiveness and improve efficiencies.

· Revise production schedules and priorities as result of equipment failure or operating problems.

· Responsible for preparation of operating budget & forecasting data. May coordinate production operations budget with appropriate construction personnel to assist in total project profitability.

· Inspects work areas to determine type of work required and materials and equipment to be used.

· Ensures that workers are supplied with tools, materials and equipment for completion of project. Assist in resolving plant problems (lack of productivity, work interfaces, etc.) as required.

· Arrange for procurement of miscellaneous tools and materials for the project.

· Monitor compliance with plant safety program requirements; document and ensure corrective measures are implemented. Arrange for procurement of miscellaneous tools and materials for the project.

· Apply established cost coding structure and other cost control measures as required.

· Inspect and maintain all tools and equipment provided for the project.

· Attendance required according to company attendance policy to ensure crew is able to operate at normal proficiency level.

· Follow all safety policies and PPE use.

Required Skills and Experience

· Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management and/or related experience.

· Minimum of 5 years supervisory experience in concrete plant, construction technology, methods, equipment, tools and work procedures.

· Advanced understanding of production methods, processes, supervision control costs and the impact on construction activities is essential.

· Rate information using personal judgment of standards that can be measured or checked; Work within precise limits or standard of accuracy; Perform a variety of duties which may change often; Use reason and logic;

· Perform arithmetical operations rapidly and accurately;

· See detail in objects or drawings and recognize slight differences in shapes or shadings; and picture flat drawings as 3-dimensional objects.

Competencies

· Employee must be able to work without direct supervision.

· Ability to multi-task, good organizational skills, and able to work with minimal supervision

· Must have a strong commitment to jobsite safety

· Diligent in demonstrating safe work practices.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position. Days of work are normally Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; however, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel

Travel to the jobsites is expected for this position.

Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee up to and over 2/3 of time at work. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must regularly lift and /or move up to 25 pounds and will frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Some equipment can be extremely heavy and will require a lot of strength to move or manipulate. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. Must have the ability to quickly respond appropriately to unexpected events.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions, rough and uneven surfaces, and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
