Longmont Humane Society is Hiring a Public Training Coordinator Near Longmont, CO

The Public Training Program Coordinator participates in and provides support for all aspects of Longmont Humane Society’s Training and Behavior program. They will coordinate public training schedules, public training group classes, private clients, adoption follow up program clients, and assist with administrative duties as assigned. The position reports to the Deputy Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Promotes and grows the Longmont Humane Society (LHS) Public Training Program (PTP), including increasing attendance in group classes, increasing private training clients, and increasing annual revenue.
  • Coordinates shared space usage and scheduling and ensures the Dog Training Center’s cleanliness.
  • Designs and prepares flyers, notices, signs, training class rosters, certificates, surveys, etc., as requested in collaboration with the marketing department.
  • Coordinates PTP instructor schedules and classes.
  • Will be teaching public training group classes.
  • Wil work one-on-one with clients during private, in-person training.
  • Represents LHS in a positive and professional manner at all times.
  • Coordinates with members of the Training and Behavior team for extended AFU Program phone counseling as needed.
  • Creates and implements new program ideas and classes and collaborates with the marketing department to promote them.
  • Maintains, organizes, and distributes training department documents such as handbooks, SOPs, etc.
  • Maintains the PTP portion of the LHS website to assure current and accurate information is available to the public.
  • Maintains records of client participation, schedules public dog training classes, and confirms all registration fees have been paid.

Job Qualifications

Education and Experience:

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in animal welfare; animal shelter experience preferred.
  • Prior training and behavioral experience preferred.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Acceptance of and comfort with a wide variety of training methods and training tools, including balanced training utilizing all four quadrants of learning theory.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule with regular weekend and evening activities.
  • Knowledge of the guidelines and practices in an animal welfare/shelter environment.
  • Knowledge of local animal control laws and state humane laws and their application to the general public.
  • Valid drivers license with a good driving record; must be able to qualify for commercial auto insurance coverage, which applies when driving a company vehicle or a personal vehicle for business use.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and public speaking skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently and make good decisions.
  • Ability to use a computer and widely used software packages, e.g., spreadsheets (Excel), word processing (MS Word); ability to learn new software as necessary.
  • Ability to meet deadlines; ability to set and accomplish work in order of priority; professionally maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and changing conditions.

  • Office and animal shelter environment.
  • Potential exposure to high noise levels and zoonotic diseases.
  • Exposure to all weather conditions when working outside or traveling.
  • Occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
  • Frequent use of computer and telephone.
