Visual Arts Teacher Job Description

Longleaf School of the Arts is a North Carolina public charter high school. We are a college preparatory school focusing on the fine arts. Our mission: 

Longleaf School of the Arts will develop students into confident, responsible, and successful contributors in college, career, and community through mentorship and a challenging curriculum that integrates academics and the fine arts. 

Job Summary: The Visual Arts Teacher will be responsible for developing in each student an interest in and the ability for creative expression in visual terms, using skills and techniques of artistic expression consistent with school guidelines in beginning level through advanced levels; to develop aesthetic understandings and appreciations; to discover and develop talents of students in the field of art.

Job Description: 

  • Responsible for creating standards based lesson plans for all classes 
  • Plan and present art displays in school and out in the community that showcase student work ? Building art program through collaborative curriculum
  • Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying intellectual and artistic abilities, and to accommodate a variety of instructional activities 
  • Collaborate and maintain a positive relationship with the arts teachers in the department as well as a partnership with other general education teachers for the purpose of Arts Integrated Lessons 
  • Maintain connections with the outside art community, bringing in professionals for master

classes, on occasion and exposing students to the many fields of which visual art is included ? Create innovative ways to recruit for the Visual Arts program and Longleaf in general 

Minimum Requirements: 

  • Bachelors or Masters degree 
  • NC Teacher License in Visual Arts is required
