SUMMARY

Instructs children in developmentally appropriate activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for child development; supports teachers/ head teachers in successfully meeting expectations and to overcome classroom challenges; collaborates with management for program implementation and oversight.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

CLASSROOM COMMUNITY:

  • Create a warm, positive, classroom that is welcoming and supportive of children and their families.
  • Provides guidance and supervision to children in a positive manner.
  • Engage in respectful child/teacher and parent/teacher interactions that align with LBDN philosophy
  • Supervise and assist children ages 6 weeks to 6 years old with general routines, including diapering, and feeding of infants, mealtime, bathroom and potty training activities, rest-time and personal hygiene.
  • Oversees the continued implementation of the outdoor classroom concept.
  • Communicates outdoor classroom supply needs to ACD.

HEALTH SAFETY AND NUTRTION:

  • Follow requirements of the Child / Adult Food Care Program (CACFP).
  • Completion of meal counts at point of service.
  • Maintains current emergency information on children and updates name to face.
  • Completes and Reviews child injury reports for accuracy and informs parents of injury and illnesses in own classroom and supports others as needed.

PROFESSIONALISM:

  • Attending all staff meetings, required staff in-services, and special/classroom events.
  • Maintain confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members.
  • Maintain professional attitude at all times.

LEADERSHIP and COMMUNICATIONS with FAMILIES:

  • Conduct and support parent /teacher conferences and participate in other parent involvement activities.
  • Greet and provide assistance to families.
  • Provides orientation to new and transitioning families and conducts center tours.
  • Provide information and resources to support families.

LEADERSHIP and COMMUNICATIONS with STAFF:

  • Assist in the orientation of new staff.
  • Assess staff training needs and reports findings to Center Director.
  • Model appropriate teacher – child interactions, teacher – teacher interactions, and teacher – parent interactions.
  • Provides environmental rating scale trainings to staff
  • Provides guidance on emergent curriculum and intentional teaching practice
  • Mentor/coach teachers and head teachers as needed
  • Follow up on classroom goals after ITERS/ECERS reviews.

PROGRAM EXCELLENCE:

  • Provide planning and execution of appropriate early childhood education experiences with a variety of materials in the fields of art, music, literature, science, mathematics, dramatics, and physical education.
  • Plans and supervises activities which promote the healthy emotional, social, intellectual, and physical development of each child.
  • Facilitate the organization of DRDP and child portfolios throughout department.
  • Provide leadership in meeting NAEYC, QSLA, and Title 5 regulations.

CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT:

  • Follow requirements and guidelines established by the Department of Social Services Title 22 and the California Department of Education Child Development Division Title 5.
  • Provide and maintain a neat organized classroom and outside environment; take responsibility for upkeep of all educational equipment and materials.
  • Maintain and keep current portfolios and desired results for each child.
  • Prepare lesson plans, classroom calendar, and daily schedule with classroom team.
  • Assess ratios to extend staff hours when necessary.
  • Provides coverage for staff lunch and rest breaks.
  • Works with teachers to meet deadlines and required documentation
  • Ensures all classroom paperwork is current and available in the classrooms (rosters, name to face, emergency contact binder, title 22, title 5, parent handbook, ERS, employee handbook, etc.)

Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise teaching staff, substitutes, student workers, interns and volunteers.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in early childhood teaching, preferred 1 year continuous experience at Long Beach Day Nursery.
  • Site Supervisor Permit
  • AA in ECE Degree or higher preferred.
  • Title 22 Teacher Eligibility Requirements: Health Screening Report, Clearance of TB test, Immunizations
  • Clearance from the Department of Justice and Child Abuse Index.
