Lone Star College-System Office employees are based at one of two System Office locations; The Woodlands and University Park. Both are the site for multiple administrative departments and system-wide training programs.

Job Description

PURPOSE AND SCOPE:

The Graphic Designer II utilizes professional level graphic design skills to accomplish assignments within an area of functional specialty. Often acting as a Project Lead, works closely with clients to develop effective end-products to meet their needs. Develops scope of design projects, conducts needs analysis with clients, and designs and implements communication strategies and products that integrate print, web, and other digital media.Plans and communicates with clients and vendors to ensure that project expectations and deadlines are met.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

1.Act as Project Lead, position meets with clients (may be internal or external) determine the scope, timeline, concepts and objectives of the project

2.Work independently or in a lead position with a cross-functional team of designers, incumbent will conceptualize, design, and create print and digital projects for internal and external audiences (may include LSC-wide, local, regional, and national media placement)

3.Make project revisions as needed and finalizes approvals for ultimate deliverables

4.Create HTML emails for internal and external audiences

5.Responsible for oversight of production and external vendors to ensure that project expectations and deadlines are met

6.Responsible for meeting multiple critical publication deadlines and using independent judgment to prioritize work

7.May focus on one or more specific types of projects, including but not limited to catalogs and class schedule productions, web/multi-media design, various major publications, posters/fliers/brochures, advertisements, etc. and may assist with LSC-wide brand management

8.Work with vendors, clients and all members of the Marketing/Communications team to advise on efficient, cost effective and effective practices and request/approve print bids

9.Accurately maintains, documents, and archives projects

10.Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned

*Extensive knowledge of professional printing processes, press capabilities, pre-press production, printing techniques, paper selection, coating, etc.

*Knowledge of all aspects related to brand management, like technical knowledge of logo design, legalities of copyright infringement, etc.

*Knowledge of PC's (Microsoft Office) and MACs and related graphic design software and tools, such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Constant Contact, etc.

*Working knowledge of database-driven, enterprise-level Website, developed in environments such as Cold Fusion, ASP, ASP.NET or PHP

*Working knowledge of Web tools such as Dreamweaver, Cascading Style Sheets, Javascripts, HTML, DHTML and/or Fireworks, and digital photography

*Excellent planning, organization and communication skills

*Strong knowledge of layout principles and aesthetic design concepts

*Ability to adapt to changing technology and acquire new skills

*Ability to work in a fast pace environment and meet deadlines

*Ability to work on several tasks simultaneously while meeting deadlines

*Ability to keep up with upgrades in software/hardware and other relevant industry information and design trends

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying of light items, such as papers, books, or small parts; or driving an automobile. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

WORK SCHEDULE AND CONDITIONS:

*Equipment used includes, PC workstation running on a LAN in a Microsoft Windows environment, calculator, phone and other general office equipment

*Interface with internal and external contacts as needed to carry out the functions of the position

*Work is performed in a climate-controlled office with minimal exposure to safety hazards

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*Bachelor's degree and at least 5 years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

*Bachelor's degree in visual communications

*Experience working with databases, xml files and digital download/conversion files to design and create print and email marketing content

*Experience with UI/UX

*Experience in working in Higher Education

Salary

Hiring salary range is $58,625-$67,419

Lone Star College provides a hiring salary range for all posted full-time non-faculty positions. Where your salary offer would fall in that range is determined by your related experience and education. Should you receive an offer of employment from Lone Star College, the resume submitted in the application process will be utilized to calculate your salary offer.
